People..

Many are thrilled at the outcome.

Many are bitter and angry.

We all get this, both the elation and the bitterness.

It makes for BAD forum topics.

I don't want to see "almost political" threads that are end-runs around the rules. You are not fooling anyone.

So, let's take a tip from both the winner and the loser; handle it with grace, and recognize that any gloating or bitterness will be met with challenge. We will lose friends here. -Not acceptable discussion.

DON'T post about it.

Don't disguise a thread to be "not" about the election, but really is about the election.

We've been working on overdrive cleaning this place up on this matter. It simply does not belong here.

Help me out here, will you? Be a good guy, not a problem.

Absolutely

And I will say that I've fielded several PM conversations between members who ran into trouble..
name-calling,
nasty stuff, etc.
They report to me, I need to deal with it.

I invariably order them to neutral corners...

Very true, but those that wish to start or post in political threads can go to forums designed for that purpose instead of a guitar forum, particularly one(s) that have rules against such things (see #5):

:cheers2:

I don't think anyone is suggesting that the mods get their powers taken away and everyone has a free for all despite the rules. I suspect the intent is that the rules are modified to allow political discussion. Maybe I'm misreading it though.

It's a guitar forum with a pedal sub forum. I have a few pedals but I wouldn't describe myself as a pedal nerd, so I don't go there often because it's not a huge interest. I know, crazy concept right, self governance and all. :laugh2:

Anyway...

+infinity.. A sub-forum is a bad idea. Way back we had a separate thread about an election and it got nasty. The mod who set it up got butt hurt and banned members who he didn't agree with.

True this. It did happen. It was a mess.

I normally just go through the posts for the day and maybe another forum or two that's about it. I like the "Today's Posts" because you can see a cross-section of what's being discussed and hopefully a lot of guitar porn!

Wait, didn't you just say you come here to get away from all that?

I did, but it was right there, so... :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

But that's not what this thread is about, is it Bobby?

It's a reminder not to gloat, not to whine, not to post about it.

Hey, I was just talking about my sex life!
:D

Here's to you Dave, always the guy to man up and go to bat.

It's a relief to hang out here where I can leave "out there" out there and only focus on the return of the Like button....

I was a mod at a BIG gaming forum that was busier than any other I've ever been on. We had a forum called Rants and Raves that was a free for all. It worked well for quite a while but then it started spilling out into the other forums. People are people, and that's a bad thing without rules and boundaries.

Right. You going to clean it up? Are you going to babysit while good friends and good members who otherwise get along fabulously destroy their relationships and stink up the place with their foul quips and tired rhetoric?

It doesn't work. I've seen it destroy a good forum with great people.

Politics is best left to conversations that are face to face. that way, if you disrespect someone, you have to answer for it.

It ain't gonna happen here.

I have to agree, even though I took part in some of that garbage. It just is not worth it.

Not sure which get uglier, political or tone wood debates.
