Got to toy around with this little guy for a little bit tonight at the good Guitar Center around here (off St.Charles Rock Rd, for all you St.Louis area cats out there in MLP land) and I have to say... This little guy will give any Epi Valve Jr, Orange Tiny Terror, Bad Cat Little Cat a run for the money...
Also, this was ran through one of the Egnater 1x12 cabs.
This thing is really cool.
My FAVORITE part about the Rebel, is that you can switch between what tubes you are using. 6L6 or EL84... You pick how much you want with a knob, do you want more 6L6? More EL84? Adjust as you wish. This REALLY works too, it is not a gimmick. This amp is a shape-shifter, you can kind of do a Fender or a Brit-crunch thing depending upon how you have the tubes set up. No matter how you have your tube-knob set, I assure you there isn't any bad tones to be found with this bad boy.
I would also like to say it has an adjustable power setting. Going from 1-watt all the way up to a VERY loud 20. Truth be told, with the wattage turned all the way down... And the gain up, it was very loud 1-watt. If you guys don't know by now, class-a tube has some serious ass to it.
Through my test-drive tonight, the most obvious thing about the Rebel is its versatility (and loudness). This amp could easily be used for any kind of rock, blues, COUNTRY maybe, and you could definitely play metal with this as well. The gain on this thing is downright BRUTAL, especially with the gain dimed and the tube knob all the way on the EL84s. A pretty Marshall-like tone, but it sounded pretty good.
Once people start getting their hands on this... It is seriously going to give the competition a run for the money. Egnater isn't a name-brand yet, and I assure you that is why people are buying certain other amps over this. I know if I had cash money, the Rebel would of came home with me tonight.
For all you E-Rebel users out there, try out my fav setting of the evening.
Tube-knob: All the way on 6L6... Although, all the way on EL84 and in the middle were awesome too!
EQ: Highs- All the way up, Mids and lows- 3'clock
Gain: about 9:30
Wattage: 1-watt
Master volume: Dimed
I jammed on that setting with a PRS McCarty for quite some time (the PRS sounded awesome too! Add that to the GAS list). Sort of like a chimey, The Clash, Bloc Party-ish setting, check it out and dirt to your liking!
