Hi all, what mods are you putting on your Edwards LPs?
I just got a 98LTS in Honeyburst and am so far happy with it.
I was just curious, this being my 1st Edwards, if anyone had any suggestions for tweaks, tips, etc?

a lil Edwardian porn for you all...

I don't recall all the mods...but I wound new pickups and installed RS PIO caps.

Fun guitars.

I actually like the Duncans that are installed.
I will check out the RS Caps.

Thanks!

This seems like a pretty decent group of people here.

Are the Edward tops real wood or laminated?

As far as I can tell, it's a real top, mine has some depth to it. If you change angles, it looks like the grain has a 1/4" depth to it. Almost 'holographic'.

One other thing, what style truss rod covers fit on these guitars?
I noticed the customized ones on eBay have some cool inlays, I was thinking either a Zoso emblem or a lil skull.
See Dragon
or another Dragon
But the key thing there is one screw on my truss rod cover...
Will these 2 hole covers work?

Laminated flame veneer over solid 2 piece(at least) maple cap matey, 100%, you'll have to go (ESP)Navigator to get a solid 'bookmatched' flame maple top, BIG $$$:)

:cool:not my cup o'tea, re Dragon type cover, prefer the standard/historic type but
have a search over on the Epiphone section, there's a 'mod' with a rubber tap/fawcett(sp?) washer for a two hole trc that may suffice, v nice guitar btw!, what's the neck profile like fat/round/chunky(50's type) or slim/flat backed/thin(60's type) ?, also what's the weight(kg's)?, I'm looking to buy a 92SD VHB (Poly)

Yeah, I thought so, I have seen some very nice tops on the Edwards though even if they are veneer.I have always fancied a Page relic.

As far as modding goes maybe some Vit Q caps and some CTS pots . Hell, I would just leave it stock if it sounds good.

I've made my experience with a non serial # 98LTS from the early days ...

the electronics are crappy and replacing the complete stuff (from the toggle to the input jack) and modding to 50's wiring provide a huge improvement in sound ...

I have a 98-LTS. If I get ambitious today I will break out the soldering iron and install the vitamin q's and treble bleed kit from Jonesy and the Dr V's from Wolfe. (Thanks to those two guys for the advice) Now if I could just get my chops up to be good enough to realize the difference. Right now though, it's NFL football time. Soldering will have to wait.

I'm looking forward to your report on the Dr Vs in your Edwards ... :fingersx:

I've given them a try in my 98LTS but I wasn't as satisfied with the combi Edwards/Dr V as I was with the Gibbo Classic/Dr V ... I'm curious ... :)
Sometimes it seems depending on the guitar if the pups can show their true character ...

I put in the DR V's, the treble bleed kit, and some vitamin Q's all at the same time so I don't know what made the biggest difference. The pickups definitely sound better but it's only the second set I've tried. You sound like you've tried a bunch. They're definitely better than the Seymour Duncans that came with the guitar. Just like some of the other guys have said about caps, it sounds like you took the blanket off the guitar yet still it's not harsh. The tone controls work now all the way from one to ten instead of being like an on/off switch. And this happens at any volume now too. It's a way better guitar than it was yesterday. There are definitely more sounds coming from this thing now and the sustain seems improved.

Your experiences meet mine exactly ... :)

YES ... I've tried alot of pups in my Edwards, because it was very bright sounding ... mostly a bit too brittle and harsh.
Got that sorted out by using some different caps and ... many pups ... the DrVs didn't have that 'character' which they'd shown finally in my Classic - too 'flat' and average sounding ...
But I must admit ... I wasn't happy with the sound in general until I've tried a Mark Robertson's set of 'MarkBuckers' in my Edwards.
Back to the DrVs ... I've sold them because I had to choose between these and the WCR Fillmores - my keepers, I love them !!
