So I’ve been gassing for an R9 for a long long time, and always felt they were a bit out of trash for my budget.

Well long story short, I sold a couple of guitars for a bit more than expected, meaning I had what I needed to be in a position to sit and ponce on the right one that came along.

Ive bought this without playing it which I know is a bit foolish, but I have to admit, I just fell in love with the top! Let’s just hope it plays as well as it looks.

I haven’t yet picked it up, but cannot wait. Planning on collecting in just over a weeks time.

Whaddya think?

Can't wait to read your first impressions of it!
I would need to sell off many guitars and gear for an R9 too.
Unfortunately ( or fortunately), I do not want to part with anything I currently have.

I have a 2007 R9. It was a very good year for R9s.

Congrats!

It is a beauty. I notice it has a Lifton-style case: Were those available in '09 or did Gibson use the black case with Custom Shop logo?

Thanks all! Can’t wait.

I’ll be honest, I’m not too sure on that one. I’m sure someone else will chime in.

That is indeed a very nice top. You did really well with this one. That thing is gorgeous and I bet it’ll look even better in person. Note how depending on the angle, your guitar looks like it has slightly different finishes. The times I’ve seen this was with finishes that have an alive color combination impossible to capture in pictures. I’m optimistic for you.

Yes, that looks like the old style Lifton that used to ship with R9's.

I like that tight ribbon curly eastern maple style figure.

The rosewood board even has a lovely grain which has to be seen in person to be appreciated.

Happy is such an understatement.

Haven’t yet had a chance to plug her in as I’m now away for the weekend, but will have a chance in the week.

One happy boy!
