I was playing an LP Standard in a local shop the other day and the clerk and I thought it was a 2011, it had the obnoxious plug lock and no coil splitting but when we looked at the back of the headstock, it said "2012".

I checked the serial number on the website and it said it was made in February of 2012.

Has anyone encountered one of these?

It played pretty well, I liked it and the guy was offering it for around 2.2k but it had some blemishes where the neck and headstock meet, almost like it was damaged from being hanged on a bad guitar rack. These blemishes seemed to be covered by an after-finish epoxy or stain. He had another LP that had the finish missing and a chunk of bare wood showing on the exact same spot... maybe it's their store *shrug* :hmm:

Anyways, bonding with an LP is a good thing and what I believe is the most important... but the blemishes, 2011 specs on a 2012 and the muddy burstbucker pro in the neck have me thinking of maybe not biting.

It was pretty despite the barely noticeable blemishes... but you know when you slap down 2k on a guitar you want it t be -perfect-.

You didn't think Gibson changed the specs on the 1st of January, did you? The "2012 spec" was introduced sometime in the first quarter.

That what I figured.

The plug can be changed out, the pickups as well... the blemishes are what worry me most. Though it is clearly marked down in price.

They were still making '08 spec Standards well into Q1 2012. There was overlap of both.

$2200 isn't a price to get excited about for a Standard with issues. I bought my 2012 Standard Plus with a hang tag price of $2175. I've seen imprints in the soft nitro on Les Pauls at GC if they have hung there for a while. The store i bought mine at had some kind of soft extra cushion stuff on their hangers.

Did you ask them about the blemishes? Food for though, when the 2012's came out, you couldn't give away the 2011 '08-Spec. Not to mention the '12 was $100 less then the '11 when they first came out. With it being a '11 and the issues, you have to wonder why it's still there.

With all of the changes you're already thinking of doing and the issues with the guitar, I'd offer them $1600. I'm sure they want to get rid of it.

You can get the '08 spec Standard for less than $1800 today. There's one on eBay right now Buy It Now for $1725. Not many people liked that model. With the bad nitro burn in the neck, it's worth even less. Even worse they tried to touch it up, could have messed it up even more if they did not do it right.

It's a 2008 Standard Model. They still made them in 2012.
