I loved Les and met him several times. However, Les never was a proponent of PAF humbuckers and had ZERO input on their design and manufacture. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Low Impedance Pickups. ALL his thoughts and energy were spent on Low Z electronics and when I talked to him he was not interested at all in Seth Lovers PAF and was more interested in talking about his Low Z stacked coil humbuckers.

Les was obsessed with attaining a pure, clean tone in which he could interface with Studio Recording gear.

The claims of this builder, I find a little bit suspect having only heard about it after Les passed away. Yes, he wound pickups for Les and maybe these are his idea of what Les wanted, but I do not believe there can be much credibility attached to the Les Paul association when Les never cared for or used PAF humbucker guitars except for photo shoots.

Still, I am glad you found a wonderful pickup voice you like and there have been some good reports about these pickups. Personally I feel, that is the most important thing. You found something that worked and are happy enough to share your opinion and recommend them based on your experience.
This is a quote from somebody I know and respect from another Forum, responding to some poster that seemed to purposely plug the Doyle Coils p'ups.

Being a voice of knowledge and reason, I value what he's saying. Enjoy the reading!

I don't can about the marketing or who did what when,or he says or she says.....
all I know is the pickups are legit.:thumb:
in fact I would say better than 90-95% of the boutigue winds ive tried.:slash:
and yes this is just my opinion for what its worth.but I have tried out a lot of
pickups and have done many magnet swaps so i do have some idea of what paf clones sound like.

I just installed a set I bought from this forum.in short they are awesome!
the bridge is 7.6k and the neck is 6.7k.dont let the numbers fool you, these can really rock.and clean the are crystal clear.there is something special going on with these but I cant explain it.when playing with some gain the lower wound string are so clear and defined its crazy.i would recommend these to anyone who likes a good paf style pickup.these are right up these with the best ive tried.

Everyone gets hung up on – What is the DC resistance – I have a set of pickups wound by a local guy here in Los Angeles – Neck 11.8 – bridge 14.1 – less output then the Doyle’s – how do they sound – compressed – (would never use these in a guitar---they sound like S---) the Doyle’s on the other hand are good – I like that the bridge stays clear and does not get compressed sounding – we all hear things differently – The Doyle pickups are one of the few pickups that work for me – it is always good to listen before taking a leap on any purchase – if you get a chance to listen to the Doyle’s it might be worth your time. . There are over 300 winders making pickups today – these IMHO are one of the better ones.

Thanks for the user descriptions. These sound like excellent pickups for me; I play through the whole range of tones, from huge bottom/big distortion to chimey-clean, and don't like to swap amps and guitars. I find that a great clear pickup tone at the front end, with moderate output, allows this in a way that hot, borderline-OD PUs do not. I've read about the Doyles, and the players here report similar results. But why, oh why, do they have to cost so freaking much?
