Loved part 1. I’ve probably seen it 10 times. It’s not perfect but it’s well done. I’ve loved the book and actually like the odd 80’s movie. I’ve only read the first book and don’t really want to read the rest as I don’t like where the story goes.

Visually, I think the reboot movies are just really well done.

I’ve seen part 2 twice now and want to go see it in IMAX. It’s another thundering sound track by Hans.

I didn’t like part 2 as much, but it’s great, and way better than any sci-fi from the last few years by a huge margin. Sci-fi is hard to do well honestly these days. I can even think of the last signifying sci-fi series or movie I really loved. Probably the Expanse.

Good lord skip Sandler’s “Spaceman” total snooze fest.

There are a couple of significant book changes, and some missing things I can’t believe left out, but I think it really captures the world building and vision and worth seeing in the theater just for the worms…

Yes, because everything has to have trannies and angry black lesbians shoehorned into it.
Dune 2 is completely free of that nonsense.
The film is really good, despite Zendaya's presence and the utterly miscast Christopher Walken.

You mean this is a new movie and not just a remake? I wasn't aware Hollywood did that anymore...
I don’t really consider movies adapting a famous bit of literature a second time a remake. It’s sort of like Batman, that really aren’t remakes, more like a reboot, since the source material as a book is more significant first than the movie ever was.

As opposed to remaking Diehard which I hope they never do, or Roadhouse, which they recently have done….or Twister that’s happening this summer……so I hear you.

I actually didn’t think Timmothy is that strong and found Jason at times to be flat in performer as well, but there he makes up for it at other times in the movie. They both have good moments too. Ya didn’t like Christopher. I could think of 10 better choices easily.

Zendaya could have been cast better probably yes. She’s there as the IT actress right now. She is captivating in appearance for me anyway and a solid actress in other things. Talented for being so young. I don’t love her as Chani. I always envisioned a more exotic, dusky, more athletic, woman in the books. Z didn’t ruin it for me though.

My wife and I saw it last week and she loved it, I’m not much of a sci fi guy but I will agree that it was well made, very well made

Ten times????
Fucks sake….. :laugh2:
It really was a great movie, one of the best I’ve seen in a while at the theater.
I’m gonna go see it again for sure, sitting further forward in the middle.
I’m gonna make a double espresso before I go, but still pack a flask.

Just saw it today, on IMax as well. I agree that Walken was miscast but everyone else did a good job including Zendaya. Personally, I think Florence Pugh is the hottest thing going right now.

I haven't seen either of the new Dune movies. I'm interested, but not super interested. I'll probably give the first one a spin if it's still on a streaming platform of some kind.

I remember when my dad brought home the VHS from the rental store. He had read the book and was pretty disappointed by the movie.
I was a huge Star Wars fan, so my kid-brain said, "WTF is this boring sh*t?".
I still haven't read it yet because of that.

Edit: Your post may get me to watch this new movie though!

I started watching Part 1 last night at 1 in morning, on DST Saturday/Sunday. Not real smart. On demand from one of the T stations (TBS,TNT, I don't know). Free with ads. I'd almost rather rent it than sit through ads especially this year if you know what I mean. Don't know if I'm going to see Part 2 until it comes out on streaming.

Yep, especially a book like DUne, that is impossible to capture in one, or even 3 movies, because of it's length and tremendous world/universe building it has.

Well I do think Chalamet's acting was vastly better in Part 2. And, even though the run time was 2:45 it didn;t feel near that long.

Yea, it differed from the book, and even the Kyle Twin Peaks version.

But, some changes I preferred how they handled it in this one (like the sister)

Others were a little odd, like the handling of the Atomics.

DEFINITELY set up for a 3rd movie, to cover Dune Messiah.

ugh, really suggest first view on the big screen. Better yet at a theater that uses the Dolby, with shaking and vibrating seats like we saw it in. Worm scenes were a visceral experience.

OLD Walken could have been great. He seemed lost in this, either his age getting to him finally, or gosh knows what. Agree, though he was a waste on the screen. And yeah, Zendaya was passable in part 1. But she has way too many 'looks' that made no sense in the scene.

I saw part 2 the other night. Always been a huge fan of the whole original series of 6 books.

They made a lot of changes. Most made a lot of sense for film.

I don’t like what they did with Chani’s character at all but overall I liked the movie. Left it open for more but I don’t see how they would do the next two books. Maybe Children.

Imagine God Emperor of Dune as a movie? That shit would be boring but the book is so awesome.

No. He is a character actor, and "Most Powerful Man In The Universe, Ruler of Mankind, Descendant of Emperors, Now Having To Humble Himself Before The Leader Of A Religious Sect" is not his character.
Walken has no gravitas.
