My Brand new LP Standard Faded arrived with a bone-dry fretboard. Should I put something on it, maybe lemon oil, a tub of butter perhaps?

I prefer this:

Seriously, this stuff is the best I've ever found:

Bore Oil for the Fife and Fret Doctor

Fret Doctor...it's awesome.

I agree with BB, get some Fretdoctor. A small bottle lasts for years.

I used some on my buddy's Hamer last night (installed some new pickups for him). His grungy, dried-up fretboard looks beautiful again.

Even the wiff remarked how dark and rich it looks now--it was whitish in color and had a ton of grime. Eeeww. (I used a very fine steel wool to buff the fingerboard a bit, takes the grime off, and polished the frets as well. I covered the pickups with painter's tape to prevent any metal from attaching itself to the pole pieces. :D)

I used a Q-Tip, and had to apply a few drops to the tip maybe 3-4 times? That stuff is gonna last me a LONG time. :D

huh, cool. i'll have to get some of that stuff. I probably shouldn't do anything to the guitar yet though, i'm still in the "deciding if i'm gonna keep it" phase. I just got it and it plays beautifully, but this little fella has been buring a hole in my eyeball for a while:

Buy Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom Figured Top Electric Guitar with Super 400 Inlays

I think i'm gonna order the Custom and if it blows my mind, then i'll return the Standard Faded and keep the custom. Ebony fretboard? Thoughts?

Ebony fretboards are awesome. A little darker sound, but very smooth and oily. :D

Pretty guitar...I'd like that better in white or black.

Fret doctor works nice...

The board does lighten up after a little, but it still stays nice and dark for the most part.

Another vote for Fret Doctor. It's almost useless to post it after so many people have done so, but man it's incredible stuff! It's like $12 a bottle, but my bottle has lasted about 2 years (at least 30 applications). Still have a lot left too.

Sometimes I see Gibsons on musiciansfriend.com or some other site, and the board is all dull, dry and terrible looking. Why don't they oil the poor boards!? Insane.

Ummm...Fret Dr. is bore oil. He just renamed the bigger sizes so as not to confuse the Woodwind players. :D

Fret Dr. is such good stuff. Can't say enough about it, and the small bottle lasts FOREVER (not forever, but a really, really ridiculously long time at least)
