Drivers are idiots these days.
Around here, if you try to leave proper dIstance between you and the vehicle in front of you, other drivers squeeze in and leave you near bumper to bumper again.
Add in the tourists in the summer and it gets 10x worse.

I know you loved riding, and have mentioned that you don’t anymore.
Do you still have the desire to and are you physically able to?
Just wondering if booking some track time might sooth your soul a bit.

back in the day when all I had was motorcycle I had to ride it year round rain or shine .
During the winter when it was just above freezing and raining I would get behind an suv or a van or some sort of tall vehicle and literally ride just a couple of feet behind them while doing 70 miles an hour down the expressway to try and shield my self from the rain and freezing wind. Luckily no one ever hit the breaks unexpectedly.

I have broken several bones in wrecks but never anything really serious and not while doing that.

I feel for you man and I hope you continue to improve.

BTW I don't ride anymore, when my son was about 4 I sold the bike and bought a boat. I didn't want my son to grow up without a dad. The way I ride it was gonna happen eventually.

Glad you're here today put back together glitches and all. I was going to like your post but it always feels weird to hit the like button for such a thread. Don't want you to think I "like" what happened, and the new "Sad" choice is depressing so that won't work either. The trouble you can have on a bike with no doors and only two of four tires has always kept me off a bike, against even a mini the biker will lose that battle. I drove for just a short time in College and decided to get out while I was ahead of the game, never looked back. Again, glad to have you with us!

Today is the 2nd anniversary of the day I got CLOBBERED on my beautiful Ducati. So many broken bones, so much nerve damage, and no more riding motorcycles.

I'm still dealing with nerve issues in my spine. Please pay attention to what's happening in front of you on the road, and leave a proper amount of distance *just in case*.

You selfish bastard.

But yes, good message all the same!

For cars, I always stay at least two lengths behind. Motorcycles, at least 3, especially if there are two, sharing a lane.

Came off my [bi]cycle in 2005.
15 months of unemployment so I could get physio three times a week.

Never crashed my bike.
Always assumed every other road-user was trying to catch me out and waiting for my concentration to lapse.

Typical.
Didn't have pads and leathers on my cycle.

(also, I never told the nurses it wasn't a 1000cc bike. They assumed and I didn't correct. If you're ever getting treatment from nurses at The Royal Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, you'll see why. omg..... *dribble)

PS.
still can't play guitar though.
LOL

Wow, you were hit by another motorcyclist? I was certain it was going to be a cage.

I have 3 taillights on my bike and everything I stop I flash them, but that's harder to do if you just slow down to turn.

Oh, it's worse than that. We were out on a ride to teach younger/newer riders how to be safe on the streets. This guy was in OUR GROUP. He tried to blame me, but the popo and his insurance company agreed with me.

I remember when it happened, like it was yesterday (I bet it seems even shorter to you). I love riding and I love being 100% healthy (physically, at least). So, your story (extremely experienced rider getting very roughed up) causes me great concern.

I re-up my wishes for your speedy recovery.

Great advice.

I think the order of events was reversed.

@TheX Glad you're still with us, bud.

I used to get hurt enough on dirt bikes that I have lingering injuries over 40 years later. My short career on a street bike ended in the early 80s. One good scare and I was pretty much done.

It always pisses me off when I see people on 2 wheels doing stupid stuff around cage monkeys who can't get off the phone long enough to stop at a 4-way.

Again, glad you made it through that. :)
