I actually think that telling a close circle of friends and family the gender of your forthcoming child via some kind of an explosive device should be pretty much mandatory....

We just dye the donkey in the appropriate color. We did recently have a mother-to-be not wanting to impose societal norms on her unborn child and had the challenge of trying to make a rainbow burro.
We also didn’t understand she didn’t want a real burro but one of these.

Thankfully the rope broke and the poor beast was able to run away.
