Me and the drummer have been jamming a lot here latley. We decided to star recording our ideas. Next weekend we are bringing in the guitarist. It looks like we really may have a band forming. I have a lot of recording gear. The heart of it all is the Zoom R16 digital multi tracker (16 track). When you mic everything its really good quality, dare i say near studio quality. You can record up to 8 tracks at once. Ive gotten really knowledgeable about mic placement for the best results. Im pretty excited to be capturing our ideas. Ill share some of what we are doing soon.

All you need to have a little fun. Powered by Band In A Box. Its assume for playing in time, and of course you can now play over bass and drums.

You can have a ball making no noise at all or run it thru your amp to jam along. I use it frequently especially travelling. Its a tool, but if you learn how to use it, its beneficial.

I can't remember when's the last time I used a multi-track like a Zoom unit (I've been accustomed to recording/mixing primarily in the box, with a DAW). Good luck, just the same.

i grew up using a cassette 4 track, so i like doing it the oldschool way. The R16 is also a DAW interface so you can record that way, i just prefer the old way.

I grew up one foot in one foot out with some of the older stuff. Some of the earliest stuff I've done was on an 8 track, for example. But at the same time, recording in the box was starting to become more and more accessible for people like me back then.
It's a bit weird IMO looking back at how things have changed, but at the same time I welcome them just the same.

I seem to spend most of my time recording stuff lately. Trouble is I find a new bit of info on how to improve things and end up starting all over again but it’s fun and the learning curve is endless. It’s worth it when you get a good result in the end. Look forward to hearing your stuff bling.

Good luck with it and congrats. I have been wanting to record our band live recently but have had a bunch of weird glitchy computer problems that finally got ironed out just in time for holidays and personal issues keeping everybody out of the studio. I find that I write very differently for the band vs bake-a-cake style w a drum machine and me playing all the parts which is generally funkier, jazzier. I've been a bit of a dry spell from that end lately. It comes and goes. When you first get a good recording situation set up you are so delighted to be able to get your ideas down that its like a dream come true. Then the dream ends and you realize, "Yeah, I basically suck."

You inspired/shamed me into it, Alligatorbling. I hadn't recorded anything in months and went down to the studio and built one from the ground up. I'm not saying it is the best thing I ever did but it was good to get back into the saddle. Wife is out of town w a sick mother so just me and the dog and he doesn't mind hearing the same tune 31 times in a row....or at least he never says he does.

Nothing of real value to add; we recorded basement demos on digital 16 track way back in the 90's with great results. I can only imagine it would sound even better, now, 20 years later. Also, Zoom makes great stuff.

Rock on, 'Bling. :dude:
