Bear with me while I set out my stall here folks...
Looked at in a certain way, the Gibson PAF was a humbucking version of the P90: bar magnet underneath the coil(s), metal (ie not magnets) polepieces.
Fair enough.
So what about the "staple" pickup that the LP Custom used to come with in the neck position - IIRC that was built "Fender style" with the polepieces actually being magnets themselves. Has anyone ever made a HB sized version of the staple pickup?
The examples I've heard of those old Customs, that style of pup at the neck balanced really well with a P90 at the bridge, and had a special clarity to it that I've not heard from any other pup design.
So is there a "humbucking staple" that would get a similar balance when paired with a conventional humbucker?
