A lot of folks believe that Fort Knox is empty. No one can prove it, but it has been stated over the years that at certain times the world's markets were flooded with gold in order to help buoy the value of the fiat dollar which isn't backed by anything except the word of the US government.

OMG !...
If Ron Paul is right, and that’s true, then China owns us.
I hope that isn’t the case.

I really dont know about GS ruling the world. What I will say is if TARP wasn't passed, we'd have a lot of murders in this country over canned food. It was very much necessary to keep credit flowing and businesses running.

But that's the thing. The US banks/securities/insurance companies through the SIV's I talked about in the other thread sold these bundled monstrosities through out the world, and to each other, interlocking the global economy. The way these contracts are written, if they meet the terms of default, payment is due immediately. None of the financial institutions had the cash reserves on hand to cover the debts they bought and sold. They knew this ahead of time... this is how they held the global economy hostage when the house of cards collapsed.

'If you don't bail us out... there will be a domino effect that will cascade around the world'. It was pretty much true. Had the banks not been able to cross lines of business with securities and trading as per the Glass-Steagall Act, it would have been impossible for this type of interlocking to happen. Goldman Sachs which was strictly a securities company was allowed to become a bank and received TARP from the gov.

Corprate USA is sitting on a ton of money.
They are loathe to pay out dividends and are forced invest that surplus eventually or lose it to scavangers.
