I was wanting to know how a direct box would sound for recording bass/guitar. Also can you record instruments straight into an audio interface that has a preamp?

There are many variations of direct boxes that give good results recording both bass and guitar..........

As for recording instruments thru audio interface there are a lot of variables at play......if your going analog with an amp modeler, I would bypass the pre-amps And use line level inputs......

There are many variables when recording direct, all dependent on the gear your working with and input options available....
