For my own amusement; Here Comes The Sun, Octopus's Garden, I Want You(She's So Heavy), Get Back, Day Tripper. The band does Birthday. Think I'll work on Rocky Raccoon tonight. Thanks, Steve G.:thumb:

Yep. Play a lot of them, and often.

I used to love to play "And Your Bird Can Sing" by myself, first putting the higher part on tape, winding it back, and playing the lower part live as I listened to the tape.

The first songs I ever learned on guitar as a kid were early Beatles tunes... But no, I haven't played any since then. :)

I do.

Hell I've even got a Ric 325 style guitar. That guitar is so comfortable it's untrue.

As a young kid I was a piano player, and I think if my family never hears "Hey Jude" again it would be too soon. :laugh2:

Trivia:

John played bass on Helter Skelter (Paul played the main riff on guitar)

There is a cool isolated bass track on YouTube of his playing

John and George played all those later "non-Paul" bass parts on a Fender Bass VI. A really cool instrument.

Tomorrow Never knows, one guitar player. We used to do it as medley with five to One. I used the breakdown from War Pigs to segue between the two. So much fun. You get to 'Sonic youth' out with a whammy, wah and delay. The song sounds fine with bass, drums pumping. Used to play the opening melody 'turn off your mid' real slow with the delay on before we kicked it and of course I applied large doses of Big Muff.
Big Muff? Ex girlfriend FUS?

As musicians collectively and individually, I believe their virtuosity was in exclusively serving the song

It's not difficult to find limitations in their musicianship, however, for many of us the crafting and performing of their songs almost limitless

Fvck, but you said that sublimely.

First pop tune over 5 minutes in length. (7:11)
Nah...it was great shit at the time. I can see it wearing thin, but not for me.

Right... George also seemed to be fond of playing a Burns bass

IIRC, George played bass on "Hey Jude"

I know a few... Can't name them all just now, but I do open-tuning versions of Norwegian Wood (CGCGCE) and In My Life (Open-G) which get positive responses.

I played Hey Jude on this rickety out of tune up right piano in a jazz bar in San Francisco this fall and the handful of people there where signing along.

When I listen to this I can't pickup the strumming parts. To me it sounds like there is a single notes in some spots.

There are, but the way I learned it, is a single note, a few loose strums, and on to the next chord. The single notes are the "walking line" on the A string. That string is going C-B-A-etc. You can change up and re-arrange, as long as you keep the general feel. If you know the chords, you know the single note parts.

Back in the day "Oh! Darling" was among the songs we played during an encore

A great song to emphasize dynamics

Ray, one of my all time favorites!!! It's got balls of humanity, that song. Some of McCartney's finest vocal work, IMFO.:thumb::dude:

Not really. I sometimes have fun with the riffs from "Taxman" or "Day Tripper". "Ticket to Ride" was one I figured out a loooooooong time ago, but I haven't played it in literally decades. "Here Comes the Sun" was one of the first licks I ever picked out by ear (an octave lower than it sounds on record). I was in a band which did a Jimi-style "Sgt Pepper", years ago; another band , we did "It Won't Be Long". I've learned bits and pieces of quite a few others.

One of the songs I'm wanting to work up for the solo 12-string thing I mentioned to you is "Dear Prudence" .... and the jester inside me would like to figure out a way to do "Tomorrow Never Knows" in that same set (as a closer) and keep it interesting -- two-and-a-half minutes of one chord is hard on both audience and musician alike!

Glad to see that I'm not alone here! :applause:

My next attempt will be to learn Norwegian Wood...
