Issues with hands and fingers - left and right. Started in my 50s. Ibuprofen, a squeeze ball (to keep joints active and loose) is all I can do. Gives me enough relief to carry on playing keys and guitar.

Gettin' old sucks...then you die.

It's interesting reading all this and what people are doing to combat it. Right now I'm envying people who don't have back problems. Everybody's pain is their focus, I'd trade a good strong back for a claw hand right about now.

I have arthritis on top of muscular dystrophy and nerve atrophy in my hands. Truth is, there's always someone worse off.

Very true. I guess we have to be reminded of it from time to time. I like watching car shows and all these out of shape guys are bending and lifting awkward and heavy and doing stuff that if I did once would send me into traction for 6 months. It f**king irks me:laugh2:, why did I have to get the crappy genetics.

Pop buying prepared turmeric capsules is an expensive way to do things. I buy fresh turmeric powder from the health food places and load it into empty gelatine capsules that I get there or from the chemist and load the powder myself. Two advantages are it's much cheaper, and that you know it's as fresh as can be.

It took about 3 weeks for me to feel any effect initially but since then it works quickly. I started at 1 capsule a day until my tummy got used to turmeric as I wasn't used to spicy food. Then I moved to one capsule twice a day. As my problem got worse I extended to two capsules a day and that is where I will sit, as even with natural remedies you have to be aware of how much you are taking.

Good luck!

When I worked long hours for Tia I had to pack my hands in ice for a time. That got rid of the pain till the next day.

Seems like it would have been easier to just hold on to the Strat for a while.

Sorry to bring this out of the pits of darkness.

But I'm going to get some turmeric powder and gel caps from Amazon. I need something that works for about every joint in my body.

I get that if I use heavy strings, especially with barre chords. I'm very prone to carpal tunnel and injured muscle tissue, so I use 9-42 or 10-46 and often tune down to Eb. That helps a lot, as does proper posture. If I play with my guitar slung too low, it makes me bend my wrist more and makes my hands and wrists much worse. I have it slung up high like a dork a lot of times. :laugh2:

Ran a piece of steel through the joint of my middle finger left hand and out through the palm years ago. It stuck and took some effort to pull out. Set up blood poisoning and according to the doc I finally saw was a couple hours from amputation. I wasbtold I would probably get arthritis from the damage but so far I am lucky....however if you wanna talk back and knees....ugh.

Careful how you sleep its easy to crush your hands while your sleeping, if you lay them out like something damageable while you sleep, instead of balling. them up under the pillow or something you'll feel better in the morning. A little ard to get used to, maybe

Fact!!!!!!!!

Several years ago I had carpal tunnel pretty bad and it was 100% due to sleeping with my hand bent in instead of stretched out. Takes some mental training, but you can re-program yourself.
I've had zero problem with that since.

Froggy: You can't accuse me of denying getting old. I just admitted that sleeping was too strenuous for me.

Pretty sure I broke my pinky summer of 2016. Its only 16 months later that I can make a fist. probably should have gotten it fixed. Sometimes it kind of hurts. I'm a pinky-less guitar player mainly anyway so doesn't bother me too much.

I’ve had pain in my finger joints for a while now and have to use the lightest strings I can find to play acoustic. Strange thing I have noticed is my fingertips feel bruised after playing for a while even though they are calloused should be well used to playing. Worst thing at the moment is the pain I get from my shoulders which then generates down the back of my arms but no way I’m giving in even when I Sound sh1t.

Sure 24/7 both hands! Worst is my thumbs.

I now have difficulty opening bottles or gripping things.....Jeez getting old sux!
My friend Arthur Itus in my thumbs. Sometimes I get cramps in my left hand. Not a good thing for a right handed player. Good thing I haven't gigged in a while.

My hands used to ache a lot, especially in the winter, after 40 years of screwdrivers, wrenches, and hammers, six days a week. I finally, several years ago, resolved to just be more careful with them, i.e. ratchets with bits, rather than twisting a screwdriver handle. Big improvement over the last two years. Still take the odd Aleve/Ibuprofen for them, though. Trigger finger on the middle finger of my left hand about five years ago. Locked solid for a while, very painful. Doc said tendon sheath damage from all the screwdriver twisting over the years. I can still feel it occasionally. Completely severed a tendon and broke the knuckle on the pinky of my left hand back in the mid 70's (punching a friend in the teeth:laugh2:) That never really got any better. Fractured my right thumb when I was i the navy (Ran into a Coke machine :laugh2::laugh2:) Plus, both wrists have been operated on. Broke the left in a bunch of places in a motorcycle crash 20 yrs ago...again, the left; no wonder I suck. So yeah, they hurt from time to time, just not as bad as they once did. Best advice I can give...be careful with your mitts, especially if you work with them like I do.
