When I see kids today with their modelling amps using tons of distortion and thinking it's a great sound I'd like to tell them to try get a tone without any amplification and see how they're doing.

absolutely!
I usually plug-in and practice for awhile, then later, end up picking
it back up and playing unplugged while watching tv off
& on all night.

Unplugged. Mainly because if I use an amp, my wife or one of two daughters complains. Also, I can practice anywhere. Plus, I read where Clapton advised practicing unplugged. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me.

<snip>practice your electric guitar unplugged. If you can get it sounding good that way then when you plug it in your expression and dynamics will be amazing.<snip>
My experience as well.

At home ...Unplugged 99% of the time. If you can't make it sound good dry and rely on effects all the time , then it's all a bit pointless as far as I am concerned . :laugh2:

It's nice to have the internet in your pocket, if for no other reason than creeping people out.

i get up to go to work around 2 am,and i like to play about 15 minutes before going to work...the family prefers unplugged.they also know that if they keep me awake by being too loud the night before i may not care what they prefer.

I'm glad to see the response to this question. I thought I was about the only one who played unplugged. For the most part I'm working on speed and technique; no amps is required.

I was once told that great guitars ALWAYS sound good unplugged. True.

Wow, I'm going out on a limb here...I never play unplugged. If I'm unplugged I'm playing acoustic. I had no idea I was in the minority...or that I WAS the minority.

Unplugged most of the time and can't seem to resist playing along with the commercials, etc. when watching TV. Also have noticed the LP has a very bright and strong sound compared to my other solid bodies when played unplugged.
