Always got a guitar laying on the desk or table next to me - if not in my lap! I live at my damned computer it seems like... Gotta have the guitar handy!

Forever doodling unplugged.

I find it very therapeutic. Seriously. When you're plugged in you are performing. It doesn't matter where you are some fucker will be able to hear you. Unplugged you are in your own little world.:thumb:

Yup, all the time. In fact, that sort of thing is what got me started on archtops in the first place. :)

Sure do. It's not always appropriate to crank a 50w Plexi clone.

I play alot unplugged. But have have 2 electrics and 4 acoustics, so if I wanna play unplugged, acoustic is usually the way to go!

I have to play my guitars unplugged because everyone in england lives near enough on top of each other and this island its a little like living in the suberbs of US cities but with houses 10-15 feet apart!!

The only way I would be able to play my guitars without annoying anyone would be to live in wales or scotland!!!!!!

When I was in a band late in school we were doing well and our manager booked us some time with a session musician each for our respective instruments.

The guitarist that I had time with was really good and the one BIG tip I remember was practice your electric guitar unplugged. If you can get it sounding good that way then when you plug it in your expression and dynamics will be amazing.

The other thing he said by the by was that a lot of rock guitarists with great tone don't have a lot of distortion just crunchand overdrive. This way the notes of what they are playing ring through. The example he gave me was Angus Young

Yeah, it happens from time to time that I play my guitars unplugged. Sometimes, when I get up in the morning I just grab my LP and play a bit while I'm drinkin' my coffee.
When I'm reading and posting here, I also often have a guitar on my lap.
And when my girlfriend goes to bed earlier than me, I can't really plug into my amp.
Reading this thread just made me grab my Cherry and play it unplugged.

I live in a apartment without good isolation. So quite alot of my playing is either unplugged or through my pod with headphones.

I have to say am am really surprised at how many people play unplugged, it is something I do all the time at home. Much of my songwriting is done that way as well, or on acoustic guitar.

Thought maybe you guys were always plugged into all those Beautiful Marshalls I see here at MLPF :naughty:

Thanks to all of you have have posted and those that have taken time to vote, you guys Rock!

Yup,while watching the tele. I'm thinking of getting a Pod XT3 for recording, so that would be the next step, using it with phones, but how to still hear the tele?:hmm::hmm:
The Street Cube is also a great turn to amp around the house.

At my store I kept my Marshall 100 watt TSL combo and that proved a great distraction. Sold it though and miss it. Been playing unplugged there too for the most part. But am so distracted by work that playing at the store I own never lasts long enough.

Always playing electrics unplugged. The wife even complains about that sometimes when I watch tv with her and she can't hear the show. The Melody Maker is almost as loud as an acoustic.

Yeah, I get that from my wife with the Junior. It's loud enough to practice along with backing tracks on the crappy speakers on my computer.

At home I'm playing unplugged most of the time. Practicing my chops and/or new songs works as well unplugged as plugged in and I think I got used to it when I had my first guitar but no amp yet. When I see kids today with their modelling amps using tons of distortion and thinking it's a great sound I'd like to tell them to try get a tone without any amplification and see how they're doing.
