do you feel bad owning two of the same color?

So i have an opportunity between two guitars- a 2004 white les paul custom and a 2007 silverburst custom.

I am a sucker for white guitars-les pauls in particular. The problem is i already own a white studio w/gold+ebony that is pretty much a white les paul custom with less bling factor. Both guitars are the same price, 2500 for the silver and 2500 for white. Silver is in arguably better condition, no hardware tarnishing, just some shrinkage around the headstock logo. White one has a small ding and is cream-yellow on the back of the guitar. I am not a huge fan of the silverburst, its kind of just whatever, but it would be nice to have a selection of different colors.

I have a black ESP, white studio, turqoise PRS, and another white? it feels so wrong

I wouldn't pay $2,500 for a guitar with a finish that discouraged me from playing it. Personally, though, I love a nice silverburst.

I would feel bad having twice the same model. There are so many cool guitars out there.But that's just me, buy it if you feel like it.

Not at all.

IMO, your thinking is flawed that a Custom is a Studio with more bling. Ultimately it's your decision and if that's how you see it, your issue should be paying an extra $2000 for just bling.

Also in the IMO department, a variety of guitars should have a variety of functional uses. Tone, pickups, coil toys, bigsby, weights, necks, scale lengths, etc. It's cool to have a beater workhorse that you can just throw in the trunk and take anywhere, a TLC queen, and everything inbetween.

Again, having 2 of the same color is not a problem.

I have two goldtops.
One is a Classic and the other a Tribute with P90's.
They're the same color but very different guitars. ;)

Form me color is irrelevant outside of an aesthetic.

But I wouldn't want two guitars with:

Same pickups, same electronics, same setup, same string gauges, same construction, etc

The only exception to that would be if one was to be a backup for touring and my number one goes down, I have another similar guitar ready to go

In my LP arsenal I have one with unpotted PAF style pickups, '50s style wiring, .009 gauge strings, Swiss cheese relief;
One with modern potted pickups, modern wiring, .010 gauge strings, chambered;
One with P90s, vintage style wiring, no weight relief, Ebony fretboard, .010 strings.

If I were to refinish them all in white, they would still be very different guitars in terms of how they sound, how they play and what songs I would use them for.

Nope. I've got a thing for Blackies:

Out of 25 or so guitars, these are the only ones with the same color. Same color is OK but I agree with the others above that they should be different hardware-wise and do different things. As you can see, my black guitars are completely different and complimentary.

This is where I am, other than feeling bad. I made a conscious decision to streamline my collection and eliminate duplicates of the same model. So instead of 3 Strats just 1. Instead of 2 Les Pauls, just one. I prefer having variety. If I was a touring professional, I'd see the need for redundant backups but for my situation, I don't need that.

IMHO, I would be more concerned about having two guitars that sound alike than having two guitars that look alike.

No! I think it would be cool to have "twin" guitars. Especially if they were meant to be like your bread n' butter workhorse rigs (I don't know if you are into that idea or not but I am). You could grab one or the other and they're interchangeable. I can see the utility of that.

But then again, I remember Brian Baker of Bad Religion has two old P90 LP's, the first one was a gold top, then he got a black one that matches it except the finish. I thought that was pretty rad too...the good twin and the evil twin.

That actually appeals to me. I'm not trying to unlock a world of tones. I'm trying to find one brutal tone and nail it consistently...

But that's just me and I don't know if the OP is in that boat or what. Just sayin'

Nothing wrong with that...
I've got two of the same guitar....

I've got two Gibson L6-Ss, one is a 2011 Reissue in blonde , maple fingerboard. I like it so much that I bought a 1977 L6-S, with ebony board.
they're both effectively the same instrument, although they both feel different and sound different. The 2011 has a slightly mellower sound, and the 1977 has a more open sound, and a really nice snarl with an overdriven amp. The 2011 has Bill Lawrence L90 humbuckers and the 1977 has Bill Lawrence L609 single coils, which are kind of like P90s with alnico poles. The 1977 originally had Bill Lawrence tarbacks (gibson made)- I like those, but it sounded a bit too similar to the other L6 so I tried the single coils which I really like.

To follow up, yes these guitars would sound alike

I have a 08 studio with a rs guitar works vintage kit with 498+490T.

My other guitars are a black ESP-M-II and a custom 24.

The guitar i am looking at is an 04' custom with 498t and 490- rs guitar works volume pots and caps.

So i guess they would look almost identical beside the fact the custom is a little yellow and the studio isn't and sound almost identical. it would not be ideal sound wise- but have always wanted a custom
