Do you, and how blatant, lie to your wife about the guitars?

I must be fortunate. Mine gets pissed off when I SELL guitars.

I console her by telling her it's ok, its just a guitar......she never seems to forgive me though.

Not about guitars , Ive been lucky most of my Guitars have been gifts from Freinds, Guitars that I would never have bought because of the $$$$ (There Rich im Poor).I have fibbed about recording equipment , When she has noticed ,Other wise I would just install it , most the time she never noticed cause she really has no iterest in recording . and really the only time she set foot in the Studio (Xtra Bedroom) was to call me for dinner. As long as I dont move a marshall stack in she wont notice the other elephants in the room.

I just got out of the dog house yesterday because of my recent purchases. I ordered a Slash Custom in January that isn't gonna ship til late April. I'm too impatient to deal with that so I pre-booked the new Slash custom that I get on April 1st. The problem, other than spending a sh#@load of $$$ in such a short time, isn't that I lied but that she found out about them before i told her what I did from THIS OPEN FORUM!!!! (She Googled me n' not in the way I like. She's a smart woman). Women think that if you don't tell them first you're lying. But since many of you ARE lying ... LOOK OUT!!

Guys, there is no reason to lie about buying guitars. I know it's an expensive hobby but really, what woman wouldn't prefer that instead of you being out doing God knows what, her man is sitting at home and the only beautiful, sexy and expensive thing that will be on your lap (other than her) is a guitar?

I love you Kristina. You're the best.

I told my wife even before we were married, "I will do stupid things, I will do things you won't like, but I will NEVER lie to you about it". That way she never has to be worrying in the back of her mind "What is he up to this time".

I see it as it can go three ways;
1) I can buy a new guitar, tell her about it, and she might be just fine with it.
2) I can buy a new guitar, tell her about it, and she might be mad at me for awhile, but she'll get over it.
3) I can buy a new guitar, lie about it, and when she eventually finds out about it, she will be mad at me about the guitar, she will be mad at me for lying, and she will have every reason for no longer trusting me about anything, guitar related or not.

Option 1 or 2 both sound better to me than 3. Besides, with the number of guitars on my "GAS" list, I'm not smart enough to come up with that many lies.

It's not a hobby. It is a sickness. My name is Rob, and I am a Guitaro-holic.

I'd fall into the sneaky category. I don't lie, I just don't volunteer the details of the assorted guitar cases that come and go, and she seldom watches me play. I also do setups, pup swaps etc for a lot of people, so even I have a hard time keeping track of my dozen or so guitars and where I left them. If I stacked all the cases in the living room and announced...THOSE ARE MINE!..things might get ugly, especially if I started green tagging them with the dollars behind them.

Nope. I don't lie to my wife about anything. This approach has worked for the last 30-yrs so I don't think I'm gonna change now...

that's the best policy really....

My gf really doesnt care what I buy. I do have a buddy that builds his bass, piece by piece. Every other month, he adds a bridge, or electronics etc. Instead of a tree grows in brooklyn, its a bass grows in elmhurst lol:rofl::rofl:

I have six guitars but have been as high as nine. These were gotton over some 25 years. As long as your family is taken care of first, ie house mortgage,Kids school etc, I have had absolutely no problems. If you are buying guitars and your kids are running around in torn shorts and the bank keeps hassling you, You need to go to G.A. Get a grip

I haven't lied about my own guitars but in 1990 I bought my eldest Son an American Standard Strat. I told Mrs Singlecut that it was a less expensive Japanese Guitar. He still owns the guitar and I'm sure he'll never part with it.
His Les Paul is another story for another day.

Well, I have to lie almost all the time. I´m supposed to save money to the marriage!( next december). About a year ago I bought a studio and told her that the guitar was with a friend , playing it in his recording sessions. Most of the time I lie about the prices I pay for my gear.

What I do is I ask her to let me have all of the change we get from any purchases 79 cents here 5 cents there some times it's a couple bucks a day. It adds up. Mostly because it adds up because I also sneak ten dollars every week under the bottom of the pile of coins every week to. Not a lie but she might not pony up the change as quickly if she new this.
