Do you, and how blatant, lie to your wife about the guitars?

I buy guitars when times are good.....she don't bitch.
I sell guitars when times are hard......I don't bitch.
I was up to about 35 of various makes and models a few years back. The only thing they had in common was 6 strings so it was more a whole bunch of guitars instead of a collection.

As I sold them off, I put the money into better (as far as resale value) guitars, mostly Lesters and Strats.

Times are hard now, and the income from selling on Ebay is keeping us afloat.

Times is hard, but life is good:thumb:

Well, having Mrs. Pepper as a musician and luthier is a double edged sword, in that She understands wanting stuff but it's a fight over who gets to buy what music gear.

How i justify a purchase these days , is a choose a guitar, the is somewhat rare and hard to find. The last two i bought, they come up on ebay once and awhile but not alot. So i tell the wife ( No lie) These are an investment.. the money i spent is still there, just in a different form.
A form i can injoy for years.. And as the years go by, they should go up in value, and once they are sold, unlike an RSP, i wont have to pay the tax man.
A win win..

Whoa...I never lie about it at all.

Man, the only time it goes bad is if I don't tell her first. My wife worked in the music industry for 22 years so she's cool about it.

I'm 55 and through the years I have narrowed my stuff down to 2 electrics, 1 acoustic and 2 tube amps.

I see that theres way more talent here than just playing guitars. I am divorced and the reason for that is, I told my last wife that I was greedy before we married but I guess she didn't believe me. And that was before I got back to playing guitar, after 30 years.:thumb::applause::cheers:

Easy thing to do would be to teach ur wife a little guitar; but that could all backfire with her going out and buying loads of random gear. lol.

Now... reality... ya we've all left out certain details at times to soften the blow... but a good wife would just say "Well hun, I guess we're buying me that god damn dress now aren't we..." ..."Yes Honey.":rofl:

so true. when i bought my Les Paul Standard Faded last year, I also bought my wife diamond stud earrings. she told me that for every dollar on that guitar I spend, she wanted a dollar's worth of diamonds.

In this age of political correctness I like to think of it as "truthfully challenged". We are all victims after all. No-one is responsible for their actions. :thumb:

It helps if your guitars are in the basement and their is a separate door to that basement. One night a few months ago I stopped by a local shop that sells historics and somehow a beautiful Murphy "followed me home". It stayed in the trunk of my car until my wife was giving the kids a bath. Then, I snuck it through the cellar door. I tried to rectify my guilty conscious by selling said guitar. But what did I do with the proceeds from the sale? You guessed it. Bought another LP. I haven't been found out yet. Somehow I'm hoping that time will magically smooth things over.

In the meantime, it's not lying, more like "omitting materially inconvenient information".

I'm bad. Very bad. :fingersx::Ohno:

This thread futher affirms my choice to stay single. I wouldn't have any of the gear I have now if I allowed myself to be 'roped in'. I firmly believe that you should rent women, not buy them. Just my 2 cents - spend it wisely!

What a great thread.....I never lie to my wife - I do low ball the cost sometimes, but other times she surprises me. I've been telling her and the kids "I will have a Les Paul by my next major birthday" for years. A month ago, I got a 20% discount voucher from Musicians Friend. I also just got my annual bonus.....I tried the line that most women (ie professional shoppers) use....."Honey - it I buy a Les Paul now, I'll SAVE $500.00!"

To my shock....she said OK - :thumb::thumb:which is why my 1st LP is on the way down to GA - will be here Wed or Thursday!:applause:

My wife bought me my first LP - an '06 Desert Burst Std. - so the way I see it she got me hooked and it's her fault! :applause:

Instead of GAS Rehab - I'm headed out to look at an sweet R7 tomorrow night. Nobody likes a quitter anyway - right? :thumb:

Well I had my sights on buying a Gibson Les Paul Classic but I couldn't buy one at the time due too lack of funds. I was watching several Les Paul Classic Zebrawood on Ebay and when I told my wife that the prices of these were going up, she told me she had saved over $1300.00 in her saving account and that if I could find one around that price she'll give me the money to buy one. I found one for $ 1279.00 from a guy in NY. He had options of Buy it now or make an offer. I made an offer for $ 1199.00 but instead I bought it for the price he was asking. Also at the buy it now price there was free shipping. So this is what I bought.

Isn't she a beauty~!!!!!!!!

By the way she said after giving me the money "Happy belated Valentine day~!!!"

Just make sure that your wife is a better guitar player than you, which she is of course, and that she will need the guitar on her next gig. This works for me all the time. I do not have to lie...ever...you guys are a bunch of pussies...

Nice angle, but this thread was ment mostly for us who do something else and play as a hobby. If I were a pro or bring money from occasional gigs, it would have been different.

And thank you for your final remark, it's a great way to make friends.

I've never lied about my stuff. I use a different approach pretty much equal to a kid following her around saying "please, please, please" for days or weeks on end. What I do is hang out on sites like this looking at gear, going to web sites that sell the gear I'm looking for, going to the shops, etc. The key is to always do these things while she is with me and ask her opinion on things which gets her involved mentally. After a while she is 100% behind me in my purchases and I can buy guilt free :naughty:

Nice way to introduce yourself, there, pal. Only 5 posts in and you're calling folks a bunch of pussies! 10 points for candor, but minus about 1000 for common sense/courtesy. Either way, I imagine we won't be hearing a whole lot from you in the future... My crystal ball sees someone getting banned pretty soon... CYA, tough guy!!! :fingersx: :applause:
