It's all got to do with the way maple covered with lacquer sound different than maple covered with lacquer..

No it is not true, but what *is* true is that the odd-year LPs (think 59) sound much better than the even-year LPs. I would never own an even-year LP. Even Slash got rid of all of his even-year LPs.
He still has his ‘58

Les Paul's that Start with an "L" in their model name, sound better than Les Pauls that don't.
