Is it true? Do plain tops or gold tops sound better than a flame top?
I'm just curious what your thoughts are.

No it is not true, but what *is* true is that the odd-year LPs (think 59) sound much better than the even-year LPs. I would never own an even-year LP. Even Slash got rid of all of his even-year LPs.

Lol - the Internet can create some nasty myths. No, a diseased vs non-diseased piece of maple will not inherently sound different. That said, any two given examples of wood can sound different from each other...

Why yes. Goldie's do sound better... It is the bronze powder interacting with the nitro.... especially when you sweat a lot... Rather intense reaction as you can tell from all the folks grimacing... Obviously painful from the expressions on the player's face....

Laminated boards sound the best - it makes no difference whatsoever whether the top is flame or plain top - and they are only available in the 2012 model year, and even then not all of them had the coveted lamination. The air gaps between the two layers create resonance chambers, and the resulting sustain is unmatched before or since. Ask Thomas from Sweden.

You have to run nickel wound strings on your flame top.
Nickel plated steel will cause wrong notes.

No fear on plain tops. Any string you like. Plain tops can’t play wrong notes because they have poor self-esteem and compensate by trying to always be perfect. Feelings of Les than...

That's right. Gary Moore used to look like Burt Reynolds back when Greenie was a gold top. Messed his face up so much he finally had enough so he had the guitar stripped and re-sprayed.
