For some reason I feel weird about having 2 different brands of pickups in my guitar. I can replace a pickup and leave the other one stock like I have now but for some reason I feel a little weird mixing Duncan and Dimarzio's. Am I the only one?

I do it all the time, leave the stock neck pup in and put Dimarzios in the bridge, but I do eventually put in a Dimarzio neck pup in as well.

I think it depends, if they sound complimentary then it's no big deal.

As long as Larry and Seymour don't find out, I'm sure you're cool. ;)

Hmmmm....Never thought of that. I probably wouldn't feel as weird about it if the pickups had covers on 'em that were similar, or if they kind of looked alike.

Also...I suspect strat users are not quite as leery about it.....

I do it all the time, but I hate it when I have a shiny Duncan and a dull Dimarzio in the same guitar. I have some guitars that are frankensteined, but mostly I like the looks to match up. That being said, I have about 40 guitars, so I can pretty much make up any combinations I want at a moment's notice. With that many guitars I have lots of them that don't look right because of different pickups, including one with a Seymour Duncan CC bridge, APC 200 middle, and G&L MFD neck! I have another favorite with a Seymour Duncan bridge, stock middle, and T-Top neck. I have some guitars where I've sanded a texture in one pickup to match the look of a Dimarzio because I wanted the Seymour Duncan but I wanted it to match.

I sometimes wonder, should we make a "satin finish" bobbin available as a Shop Floor Custom? I know personally I have a couple guitars I would put them in.

By the way the Screamin Demon makes a great neck pickup along side the Alternative 8.

Hell no they dont. Im thinking about dropping an old van zandt to my neck in my 50ish strat to completly change the direction in tone.

I used to run with a Duncan JB Jr and two Kinman '62s in my Warmoth Strat. Worked great for me for 5 years. Before that, I used the Jr with two Dimarzio Virtual Vintage pups. Sounded fine.

However, once the 6707 singles went in the same guitar last year...game over.

Best ask Neil Young...

Ever seen pics of "Old Black"?

Don't know about different brand, one of them just isn't supposed to be there (until you hear it!)

Nah don't worry as long as your happy with the tone it's nobodys say but yours.

I know guitar players who have to have the same brand in both positions and they only ever play through the bridge so whats the point appart form appearence.

Keep your self happy with your guitar fist and foremost.

Some pickup makers put their magnets in with the north on the slug side, others with north on the polescrew side, so that could be a problem if you do not want the Peter Green mod, accidently.
