Hey guys, I was looking for a nice MIJ SG (would be the third one) and found that Digimart had some guitars that From Japan (my go to proxy service) did not list.
The shop listing my desired guitar doesn't seem to sell internationally. How would you go about buying through Digimart? Do they sell to overseas customers, or do I need to go through another proxy buyer?

Sorry if this is so basic it should be obvious, and thanks for your advice!

You would have to find a buying agent, problem now is with CITES on rosewood many retail stores won’t ship guitars internationally...

Yeah, I'm aware. Bought my last electric from Ishibashi in the spring, was quite a hassle to get all the paperwork, and saw that From Japan for example won't deal in rosewood fingerboard guitars in general.

Thanks for the reply, and a Merry Christmas to you, or a tolerable one, if it's not your kinda holiday.

Thank you guys, and big thanks for the invite, Free!
Lets see if I find what I've found there.
And yeah, I remember the list of intl. stores thread, probably have it saved somewhere too.

Have a Very Merry Christmas y'all!

Okay, so the Rinkya search didn't bring up the guitar either. Does this fall under "custom order" then?
Can you ask them to buy something their search engine won't list?

Yes. Its a custom order. Basically you just need to paste the link of the item and your set. Ive bought several guitars from Digimart through Rinkya. Easy peasy.

And they are less scrupulous about CITES than others? Well, last time my guitar had the paperwork but they didn't hold it eventually, just wanted the regular customs and VAT fees.

You don't necessarily have to use Rinkya. I'd do it as a last resort. If you scroll to the bottom of the item listing you'll see store details. If you google search the store details e.g. 'Harano Gakki Rockin Nagoya store' you might be able to find their website to send an emal enquiry through, or better yet, a facebook account that you can direct message.

It's a good way to save fees, but just make sure you get them to pack it with lots of bubble wrap, especially around the headstock area.

Yeah, when I see any sign of international communications on the store's own website, I contact them. I don't want extra fees when avoidable, but in this particular instance, the store doesn't seem to have an English language option. I haven't made up my mind yet, there are a couple of options, and one is risk free regarding the rosewood fingerboard.

OFF TOPIC: any news on CITES regulation modifications that would help us guitar buyers on the used market?

OFF TOPIC: any news on CITES regulation modifications that would help us guitar buyers on the used market?

There's been some talk, but I don't think there's an opportunity to make any changes until 2019.

I used FromJapan for most of 2017 without issue. They bought and shipped guitars containing rosewood to me regardless of whether or not rosewood was in the description. Lately, I've noticed that if a description contains the word rose or rosewood, I'm unable to bid on it through them. I did use them to directly purchase a rosewood containing guitar and when they received it, initially refused to ship it to me. Eventually, they did ship it, but insisted that I use DHL, which turned out to be a huge PITA. THe guitar did get to me finally, but caused me a great deal of stress.

That sucks, but at least it arrived. Local Post is contracting out international parcels to DHL, so it's basically the only option, unless I specify Fed Ex (haven't seen another courier option on FJ).
Well... if I go through a proxy, it's always going to be a risk... wish you could just ask them to declare pau ferro or some other vaguely rw looking wood type on used instruments. I know that's shady, but the regulations still make no sense in that specific market.

No CITES paperwork with Rinkya. Your are looking at roughly $220 USD fees buying via them plus about $165 to ship Rinkya Prime/FedEx. If you are in the states. My Momose went thru Oakland California customs without a hitch. I finally received it in Illinois. No issues with the whole process.

Do you also pay any customs or duty fees? Every time I've had something shipped via FedEx, I've been charged duties and fees. Using EMS/USPS I've never been charged them.

I did not pay any taxes to have my guitar shipped to the States.
