I've been looking at 2014 R9's, and there is two different prices I am seeing at the same stores for what appears to be the same guitar? One is $6299 MSRP, while the other is $6499, and I can't see any differences in person or on paper.

Anyone else seen this and knows what I'm talking about?

And if anyone is willing to help me out a little via PM on helping me with models and differences, etc, please let me know.. Any help would be appreciated as I'm new to Historics.

It would be very helpful ,if you gave more details , other than they are R9's and the MSRP .
Pictures might help explain somethings also . All R9's are not valued the same . :hmm:

I just checked on Sweetwater and the only thing I can think of is that they are charging slightly more for the later 2014s that come with the flat-topped Klusons, whereas the $6299 models have the older domed tops. There may be other minor differences as well, but that was the only one I could find. See below:

$6499 2014 Lemonburst Gloss R9 .............................................. $6299 2014 Lemonburst Gloss R9

I checked the two comparably priced Washed Cherry and Faded Tobacco examples and found the same thing. Seems kind of silly, but maybe. :dunno:

That's it! As hard as I was looking, I didn't see that.

So if I like an earlier 2014 model that is cheaper, am I missing out on a significant change? (Again, I don't know much about historics and if it was a non-historic I'd just consider that I could change them later if I wanted).

Thanks for your help.

$200 extra for flat top pole tuners

Where not talking parts on a Real '59 here. It's of no relevance at all. As great as these guitars are, they still are just look a likes of the real deal. Just buy a nice one as cheaply as you can and enjoy. Used is the way to go. Early examples never had a long neck tenon, hide glue etc, are they any less awesome sounding.

Flat topped? Dome topped? They look the same in those pictures.

By the way, the burst on the right has a cool fingerboard! :applause:

I don't think these are the same as the ones from '12 and earlier. They are flat on top and single-line on the back, whereas the flat tops in pre-'13s were double-line on the back. Whether that's worth $200 is certainly questionable. And again, there may be other factors that I just didn't pick up on as well.

If you like an earlier one better, I would definitely go with it, regardless of that change. Then you can decide if you want to get some different tuners or just leave them. I've changed all mine out to be flat (except for the R8 that I'm selling), but I'm a weirdo.

The top picture has flat tops on the tuning pegs and the bottom are rounded or domed.

I believe the difference is due to a price increase that was passed on to the dealers for the later models. I know when I bought mine earlier this year, the dealer said that after a certain date, he would see a price increase in the 14's, and would have to charge more as a result.

this is probably the more logical answer.....

I heard this too. Simple MAP increases at a certain cutoff.
