Guys, I've been wondering is there any difference between the R8 made in 2008 or the R8 50th Anniversary model ? There both made in 2008. And the same question for the R9 -(09) verses the R9 Anniversary ? :hmm: Thanks

There is something very special about those R8 50th Murphy's. I've played six different ones, and they are all tone monsters. There is something about those pups. What, I don't know. They are dry, woody sounding guitars. Truth be told, I've had a lot of R8s (from many years including 2008), and none could touch those Murphy's for feel and tone. Why? No idea.

The 50th R9 is an amazing beast as well. Much brighter, and snappier that any other R9s I've had. Mine is quite loud unplugged. It almost has a p90s like snarl when plugged in. Lots of attitude is present! I don't know how it'll compare to the others that come out this year. Give me time! :)

My opinions are only based on the experience I've had.

The 50th R8 is limited to 200 guitars and aged by Tom Murphy.
It also has a fancy 50th anniversary sticker on the pickguard.

I don't think anybody is certain about the '09s because I don't believe the non-anniversary models are out yet. I think the only differences with the '09s will be the official anniversary editions are Darkburst or Heritage Cherry, high gloss finish and the COA comes in a gold booklet.

the '50th Ann. R8 has Rolled binding on the neck. A smoother feel.

Todd68, thanks for your response. So I'm getting the only things that makes an R8-50th different form a R-8 08 is it's a murphy? And it would be the same for R-9 verses the R9 50th. Man I'm lost. Is the wood ? Is the peice of paper that says 50th? Thanks man.
