Hi all, am looking at getting one of these guitars, but am wondering if there is any real difference between them?

The 2018 seems to have VOS finish and the 2019 not, and the 2018 has the 50th anniversary badge. Other specs seem much the same?

Pleas help!

Yeah, those are the pages I was going off. They don't have all the details to cross-check, but everything seems the same. Has anyone played both?

I just got a 2019 model yesterday! I'm fairly sure that they only difference is cosmetic. The binding on the 2019 is cream. On the 2018 it was nicotine yellow. The 2019 is very shiny! But I'm sure that wont last too long!

I guess the better question is do a buy a used 50th anniversary or a never used 2019?

Same price, but the 2018 has a few minor scratches

2019s should have OEM paper in oil caps, if that matters to you. Gibson delays updating LP Custom specs sometimes but you could just ask for a picture if it's an online purchase. The 50th might be worth an extra $100 when we are much older. Personally, I would go for the one that's not a boat anchor.

This is what my 2019 has in. Dunno if these are Spragues or just copies.

I've not seen any boat anchors of this model in 2019. Heaviest I've seen is 9.5lb which is the one I've got :)

Well, which one sounds better?

If you can't answer that, you'll have to go on looks and weight alone.

I see people asking near new prices for used '68 models but can't see that as realistic myself...

Personally I like the yellowed bindings. I'm too old for them to yellow much by themselves in the time left on this earth.
:) Yes I think the yellow looks better too but they didn't match the neck binding which looks slightly odd. That said, both years have pure white binding on the pickguard which doesn't match the rest of the guitar! I will need to start smoking ASAP to get my guitar looking proper!

I believe they are the same weight?
