Recently sold my beloved 2013 Trad to fund a 58 RI in Tobacco Burst. That guitar had become such a part of me that I can't get on the 58'. I know it sounds crazy but it's a feel thing for me. Don't get me wrong, the thing is the best sounding guitar Ive ever played. And oh my god, sustain for days. Never heard a guitar sustain like that! Now Im stuck with it. What should I do? Any suggestions? Trade offers. I figures this is the place to to ask for suggestions. Thanks.

Well, if your old traditional was a 2013 its not like you've been playing it for 10 years. What year is the 58? If your not bonding then sell. There's a lot of guitars out there. To me, the 2013's and 14's (I've had both) have something special going on that the older RI's just don't have. If your's isn't a 13 or a 14 then try one.

You want the Trad back? Contact the guy you sold it to and propose a straight trade for your R8. I bet you get it back ...

Any time you sell something you love to buy something you think you'll like, you've made a mistake. It's easy to do. We all do it. We all have eyes bigger than our stomachs. Stick with what you love and what you bond with. You get what you pay for, and an R8 is an unbelievable guitar. But sometimes it's not about how much something costs, and that is very true in relation to guitars. I think we all forget that too often. We go for image and prestige over the true bond between player and instrument. Rant over.

When you break up with a girl after a long time, the next girl you date seems weird at first because she looks different, laughs different, smells different, and feels different. You're expecting certain responses to situations and questions that you don't get, and it's strange. But after a little while, you start to realize how much better off you are, and all of the things that once seemed strange or different are what makes you love her even more. Give it time, and stop comparing apples to oranges, and most of all, don't make a rushed decision based on what us guitar derelicts suggest. :)

Love the 2013 Traditional or not, no way I would trade a 2014 R8 straight up for a 2013 Traditional. To big of a price difference IMO, even on the used market. 2013 Traditionals go for maybe $1500 on the used market. 2014 R8's go for around $3K or more.

If anything I would contact the buyer and offer him a little more than he paid for it back. Then sell the 2014 R8.

DO NOT DO AN EVEN TRADE... You're throwing away money.... can you afford to just buy it back, do so if you can! and the 58RI's aren't slouch guitars. Good Luck

Play it for a while(the R8 , a week?) before you make another hasty decision . Change can take time , and you might regret letting go the R8 go once it's gone . Sellers remorse , it's called and many have expressed it here .

Also , you post it's a pretty good guitar ,but not your old 1 . Bingo . With some time , it might turn out to be ,BETTER ,then what you had .:wow:

You guys are not giving the proper MLP forum advice - you're supposed to tell him to ship it off to Historic Makeovers and have the neck re-carved and finish re-sprayed to be like his old Traditional.

Haha. You know what? Its the lower frets that are really killing me. Harder to play then my trad. Sounds way better for sure.

Slap a top notch setup job of your choice by a pro tech on the R8 and play it for more than a few weeks then make a decision. I'd be shocked if you couldn't get what your wanting out of that R8.

Historic Makeovers will re-fret it for you, too!

In all seriousness, any good luthier could re-fret it for you - wouldn't be that expensive.

It's just getting use to it. I use to think that also but now I find the lower frets much easier to play.

Also how is your action on your R8? If the lower frets feel harder to play it may be due to your action is higher than you were use to with your Traditonal. You may need to lower your action slightly to make the feel more to your liking.

How old are you and long have you had the R8 for? Just play it for a while.

32 yrs old. I have had the r8 2 days. But in the two years i had that traditional i put literally thousands of hours on it. Seems to have had quite a beefer neck on it then the r8 which i kinda miss too

If the lower frets are harder to play, maybe the nut needs tweaking a bit?
