Welp... I posted a pic or two in some of the other threads but as soon as I got it I took it in for a refret. This thing is almost museum grade clean but the frets were awful. Im aware of the frets of the era, Ive owned several Gibsons and specifically Les Pauls in this range and Im telling you these wer unworn really and just unusably low even by the Standard. So I dropped it off to Dave at Scale Model Guitars in Nashville and pulled the trigger on the dreaded refret. Welllll worth it. It sings like none other now. So NOW that Ive made a perfect looker into a perfect player too I present you the 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom...a total dreamboat.

I couldn't play it; always be pushing it away so I could stare at the back.

^ Yeah......and the neck burst and the headstock!!

This is my 'ideal brownburst'. A guy I knew at Uni bought a similar age Standard in this colour......and it was such a nice guitar. His was an 81.....and I later figured out the 'sweet' tones he got from it were the Shaws in action. His other axe was an 88 Custom with the Lawrence circuitboard pickups.

Nice find!
I too had to take my '78 Custom in as soon as I got it.
Bone nut, refret, saddles. (Had been converted to lefty)
Lost the nibs but got an a amazing playable instrument!

In those years that color went as "Tobacco Sunburst".
Yours is just awesome!
Congratulations!

Nice one B.
Kinda reminds me of another one I know of...The Closet Queen.
I remember when you checked her out years ago and fell in love back then.
Congrats to you!

T top. Guitar was made and has a pickup from about 3 weeks after Shaw started working there im not breaking the solder joints to find out what its deal is. This has a nice fat neck. I had an 81 with the toothpick neck and i HATED it. This one is massive by comparison to most. A big comfy couch

Normally, I'm not crazy about Norlin era back finishes, but that's the best of the bunch I've seen. HNGD to you!
