Man, I got really hungry reading all these Del Taco posts.

So I googled "Del Taco in Omaha"

The good news: I came up with several Del Taco locations

The bad news: Two are in St. Louis, the rest in the Denver area.

Great timing. I was telling someone about Del Taco just last week.

I was stationed at 29 Palms in the late eighties. There was a Del Taco out in town or maybe in the Yucca Valley. Anyway...I'm from OHIO and and we had Zantigo's before Taco Bell. Zantigo's was great and that is what I remmeber Del Taco being, GREAT!

You need cabbage for your fish tacos.

You need cilantro and lime for your steak. Marinade the steak in a lil oj, adobo and crushed garlic.

There's a Del Taco a block over from my old job. I went there a couple times. Didn't care for it. The food was always too salty so that turned me off from DT. Maybe it was just that particular one.

I don't go to any of those 'berto places either. I used to, until I got sick for three days after eating at one. I kid you not. It knocked me on my @ss.

You got to be careful which "Berto's" you go to. There are many many copies. Aliberto's, Ariberto's Albierto's etc. ALBERTO'S is the only one that is really any good and they are usually just this side of failing the health inspection.

The best Mexican food I ever had was in Houston. The drummer's parents were from Mexico, I mean "old world" parents. You know, they kind where mom spends all day in the kitchen. OMFG!!! could that woman cook. NOTHING has ever come close to the food she made for us for the 2 weeks we were there.

Pound your steak to tenderize
If you marinade the steak in the oj and chopped garlic for an hour or 2
Pull out and drain off.
Give it a generous dusting of adobo.
Chop the steak realitively fine.
Cook on a griddle or flat iron on med high heat.

The adobo and oj mairnade caramelize the outside of the meat searing in the flavor...gives you the crunchy outside tender inside (hence the higher heat)

Warm some corn torts on the griddle too.
Toss in the steak
Toss on uncooked cilantro and chopped onionon top
Hit with a spritz of lime.

Now youre killin it

Damn straight, cilantro is the key to good, real Mexican food. The lime is a close second.

I'll post up some recipes for some Mexican food I make one day. The shit is not that hard to do right, it just takes a little time.
