Define cork sniffing

My favorite cork sniffing proclamation has got to be: "Gibson hasn't made a decent guitar since 19xx." This sort of thing isn't unique to Gibson guitars either; I see this sentiment expressed all the time about Marshall Amps as well. In fact, I would say that I see more cork sniffing over on the marshallamp forums than here!

I think cork-sniffing means any "purist" snobbery, denigrating anything that deviates from the 1959 LP "touchstone";

1./ All Norlins are crap because they're not made like a '59.
2./ New Les Pauls aren't "real" Les Pauls, because they're not made like '59.

I've said it before - it's a good thing car manufacturers don't display the same distain for evolution or technological change, or we'd all be driving along in our all-black cars, at 12 miles an hour, on 2" wide tires that are mounted on wooden rims.
