Well marvellous just got My first ever Les Paul and amp home and one of them isn't working as I can't get a sound out of them, I popped upstairs and came back down to find my young son frantically yanking the Rythmn switch back and forward on th LP so I am wondering if he broke the switch or something or if its just coincidence, help what checks or tests an I do to rule out and test various things? As I don't have another guitar I can't even test the amp but I think it is the guitar as I can't get it to register through the tuner with any notes?

Please Help!!!!

If you turn the amp up with the cable in the input jack, then touch the tip, it should hum nicely if the amp is working. If you have a multimeter, use it on the cable to make sure the cable is not broken. Another plan is to take it all to a music store or friends house and try a different combination of amp, cable and guitar to isolate which one is the problem.

Given the history of the child yanking on the switch, the guitar may well be the problem. First just look at the switch and see if it physically seems the same, or if it seems loose or broken. If you have no familiarity with electronics it would be nonproductive to try to talk you through diagnosing and fixing the problem from there. Did you buy the guitar new with a warranty? Depending on the situation, you may be able to just take it in and get it fixed or trade it in for another. If its used or has no warranty, chances are its still a simple and fairly inexpensive fix - electric guitars are pretty simple devices from the electronic standpoint.

Let us know how it turns out. Look at the good side - some of us have no little kids around to break our stuff!

Hi all right went around to my father in laws with my LP and amp etc and it turned out to be the guitar lead that was faulty, phew thank goodness for that :)

Many thanks for all the helpful advice to try and diagnose it

Just to add I am really please with both the Les Paul and the amp they sound great, the Orange sounds amazingly similar to my father in laws Marshall tube amp in sound, even he was really surprises how good the little Orange is

Just got to practice now and learn to play again after a 15 year break!!! Lol

He is under strict instructions not to touch the guitar but he does however keep pinching the key to the hard case, locks it and then disappears with the key :)

Kids always keep you on your toes!! Lol

You know, they make collars and leashes for that? My daughter is 12 now and thankfully still alive due to those! (J/K)

I actually bought her a mini Strat years ago to keep her occupied.
