She got called at 2:00AM Saturday morning to the first of four crime scenes. Long night. The last one was to process the decomposed remains of a man that had been exposed to the heat for at least a week. They tagged him as "Soupy Man". Autopsy being done today. Guess these analysts share a little gallows humor now and then. When they got into the ME's van to return to the lab, they all held their noses and pointed at each other! Good thing, the medical examiner's office has special showers for decontamination. Daughter said the smell will linger in their hair for several days, though.

Dad is proud of her.

Witnissed those forensic types dig up decomposing bodies in weather like that in Kosovo after the EOD cleared the graves. Jesus, I'll never forget that smell.

Anyway, after daughter #2's work is done daughter #1 can send the murderer to jail? Or defend him lol. :D

The world could use a great many more people like you and your daughter, Nicky.

Sure makes me glad to be an electrician, though. :laugh2:

I have a friend that is an EMT, Told me a story of having to respond to a house of an older man that hadn't been seen by his neighbors for about a week. They get into the house, Which is full off flies(bad sign) they make their way into the living room to see the what was left of the old man laying on the couch. The man had died while laying on the couch and had been laying there for the week. My friend said you could tell that WAS a person there at one point,But that he had basically kind of "melted" into the couch.

"Bony goo" was the phrase he used.

Looks like it may be a homicide. Sometimes, a homeless person will get injured and trapped in a dumpster, but evidence is suggesting foul play.

I have nothing but respect for those tasked with handling the deceased.

Can't imagine the horrible sights and smells they have to deal with.

Very cool. You have a right to be the proud dad. Did she grow up watching CSi? And did that influence her career choice?

Well, her dad shoots IDPA competitions.

That's 300 extra life points right there.

Her interest in forensic science started when she was in junior high, a bit before the first CSI started on television. She certainly enjoyed those programs, but she loved biology, chemistry and anthropology - it just grew from there.

She says the CSI programs are fairly accurate, except for the timeframes. Most of their DNA and material tests take weeks, not minutes. They call it "Hollywood time". Her lab is quite modern, and is one of the busiest in the world.

That would be really interesting. It's one of those "if I did things all over again" type roles, I'd be interested in pursuing that.

Autopsy is complete. They know who "Soupy Man" is - he was reported missing from a neighboring county a week ago. Categorized as a homicide. Poor bastard.

Daughter and assistant ME went to dinner afterwards. They had to sit outside.
