I am considering the Axcess. I have been on the lookout for a Les Paul with a Kahler or a Floyd, but nothing has come up.

I currently have a #1 that is a Les Paul, but I used to use a whammy bar on my EVH signature model, and miss it.

Are the Custom's that much better? Everytime I read the description on the Axcess, I say, its perfect, amde just for me. But $3500 is a lot....I can eat some of that thinking I am getting a Les Paul Custom, but I just odnt know anymore...

Sigh....

I'd go with a Historic BB over a run of the mill Custom. You're in the same price range, might as well get the long tenon and solid back.

The Axcess really doesn't do it for me at all...

But don't the Historic BB's only come with P-90s? Most people like the Burstbuckers on the customs.

I like My R4 Historic VOS BB LP:
1Alnico
1 P90
Changing them out for a P90 Set with a reverse wound bridge Pup.
But the stock setup is good too. THe Alnico neck pup is great for clean Jazz. I'm wanting higher gain though hence the change out.

I do love my Customs to have Humbuckers though. Before this one, all my Customs were humbucker blessed.

I dunno... The '68 blows them all away, IMO. :laugh2::laugh2:

I had a real '68 for a long while. The reissues are not even close for me. They are nice, but none I have played sounded or felt like my '68 Black Beauty Custom. I was a fool for letting it go.
The R4 I have and the R9 both kill most non Historic Lps I have played. Something great about the VOS Historics in my book.

Yeah, I've never played a real '68.. They murder every other Custom made currently though, IMO! I can't stress that enough! You will probably like your R4 better than my '68s, and so on...

I would love to play a real '68. They have gone so far up in price though..

I'll never play one again too, unless I hurry and sell ALL my crap to get one.

Lessee. the only Custom VOS/Historics are the R7 and the R4. Is there an R0 Custom or are they all mere "Standards" ( Mere, Ha! )?

The Regular line of Gibson Customs is OK, but I've found the VOS two to be really above them. The '68 RI's to be somewhere between them. I find the current '68s to have the thickest LP neck I've ever played. My original '68 was much thinner.

Are ya sitting? I bought my '68' for $300.00 and sold it a decade later for the same amount. Right after that the prices shot up like crazy, Slash hit, and well, here we are.....sigh........

Crazy! Those huge necks are a selling point for me. I have a Classic that's actually retired, because if I play it for longer than 30 min., my hand starts cramping. At the time I bought it though, it was the only LP I could afford! :laugh2:

I never get rid of anything, but I still keep up with maintenance and play it every now and then.

I was unemployed, had just moved back to the states, and needed a down payment on a Ford SHO ( I had no car, so why not one that did 150 MPH from the factory?!)
Kept the car 12 years and it served me well. But I should come up with the downpayment $ a different way.....

Oh, I like thick necks on LPs now, my R4 and R9 have a lot of meat, but the '68's I've played had about 1/3 more or so it seemed.
I sold my thin necked Burny Les Paul as like you, it cramped my hand up. I love the thinner neck on my SG though. Go figure?
