Hi everyone. I'm new to mylespaul as you can see. I am looking at buying an epiphone paul some time very soon. I started out looking at gibson studios but eventually decided against them. I really like the elitist and will go with that if I find an affordable one. My question at the moment is what are the main differences between epiphone standards and customs. I know there are a few cosmetics, but are the woods/electronics/hardware any different? I ask because I prefer the look of a standard to a custom, but my main concern is construction/sound quality. Any other suggestions would also be helpful...

Thanks!!:hmm:

The main differences between the Epiphone Les Paul Customs and Standards are strictly cosmetic.
Mechanically and electronically, they are the same, for the most part.

Pretty sure the Customs as of last year now have 100% mahogany bodies, not mahogany/alder like the Standards. Some people on the retired Official Epiphone Forum apparently found that out. Wish the old forum was archived.

But if you want the Standard, get the Standard. It's at least $100 less and you won't be second-guessing yourself after you buy it.

Like others have said, the differences are cosmetics. Both guitars has the same pickups and other parts.

If you go with the Elitists, they're pretty much identical. Plus Top standards do have a veneer top, the Customs are solid.
