Same guitar. The 50th anniversary models come in 3 stages though, the first being to " 1959 specs " the second a transition, and the third being the thin neck reflector knobbed, double Kluson ring tuner that you have in the first link and most people think of when they think 1960 reissue.

there has to be a difference or else the VOS models would have been discontinued

Same guitar/different finishes.

VOS models have the faux aging: aged hardware that gives it a matte/brushed look, tops that are not buffed to a high gloss. Much of the aging can be removed and the tops can be polished to gloss if prefered.

50th Anniversary models have no aging whatsoever. All hardware is bright and shiny nickel, the tops are buffed to high gloss hence the higher price (+$300) for these models. Limited production as well for these.

VOS is Gibson's "stock" finish for Historics these days (since 2006). Prior to that most Historics were shipped with a gloss finish. "Custom Authentic" is a pre'06 version of VOS. I think the only way to get glossy finishes is to buy an Anniversary model unless the guitar is pre'06. This applies to last years 1959 reissues, only the 50th Anniversary models were glossy.

Read the stickies, please.

Gibson's VOS - Vintage Original Spec line. The terms VOS, historic, reissue & historic reissue all refer to the same guitar. There is only one difference, VOS refers to the aged finish on the top and hardware. The ones that do not have the VOS finish are referred to as "gloss" or "high gloss" reissues because (obviously) they have a high gloss finish. Websites like Guitar Center list the two guitars as VOS and "reissue." Reissue refers to the high gloss. I think this has caused some confusion with some people but rest assured, they are all the same guitar. Again, one looks brand new and the other does not look brand new - that's the only difference. VOS costs $300 less.

Wow, someone who admits they are completely ignorant on custom shop reissues asks a straight forward question. I provide an answer.....and they argue I'm wrong.

I just thought theres had to be some difference and there is...

You never mentioned aged hardware on the vos. Which is what everybody else comented on. The anniversary has a pretty thorough details page which explains all 3 versions but thats not what i asked.

The 50th Ann models are designated as such, come with a hard bound Gold COA and limited production of only 500. The VOS Series would have produced greater numbers and as mentioned & are like the V3 of the Ann Re-Issue spec wise. Gloss or VOS finishes available.

I apologize, I didn't realize Gibson leaving snot on the hardware made it different. I also apologize for explaining the three 50'th anniversary models as that's what most "custom shop newbs" don't understand when they see the 2010 RO. I'm a terrible person.
