Thank you Jeff for the input. I have an Epi LP 60's Trib that I have been really enjoying.

I have both Gibson and Epi's and I enjoy both. My favorite of the bunch is my Epiphone SG (one with neck binding), though my 2014 Melody Maker is catching up. The only way to know for sure is to go out and play it. I do not think this Special will be on par with your 60's Tribute. Unless you are specifically wanting a Special, I would recommend looking for one of the Faded model Gibson Les Pauls. They can be found in the $500 range and are a much better guitar than the Special SL. If you want a Special I recommend one of the 2012 Junior Specials. I have one, though I don't play it much any more, and it is a great guitar. It has a maple board but I like the board as it has the feel of ebony and the look of smooth rosewood. You can sometimes find those in the low 500 range.

All that said, just be patient because in today's market a buyer can find some great deals in your price range.

Everyone's local CL market is different... but up here in the Boston and NH CL's, you can consistently find Studios for $600 with hard cases. I picked up a 2012 LP Junior special w/ p90's in pretty much new condition for $325.

The guitar you posted is different and kind of cool, but I think it is overpriced and kind of an unusual LP. I realize that most people here do not buy guitar to re-sell them later... but I think resale value should be considered if you ever have to move it.
