Hey all, just picked up this unbranded guitar. It has what I believe are korean pickups and all japanese hardware and pots. I believe the guitar is MIJ but the wood looks like something that would come out of china possibly to me. I'm thinking this is an Edwards made guitar. It has a lot of similarities to the Edwards Sg Special I own like identical control cavities and covers. One big difference though is the lack of figuring in the grain and that this guitar is roughly 1.4 lbs lighter than that known to be mahogany guitar. I'm guessing it's not mahogany. I know it's hard to see under the wine red paint but that's the best I can do with the flash on to highlight it. Any help is appreciated, the guitar is nice, just trying to get some more info on what I own. Thanks, now without further ado, please take a look at my wood and be honest. haha

agreed that it's difficult to tell under the paint, but if it was made in america, i could easily be convinced it was poplar, so what kind of asian wood looks similar to poplar? can you take the pickguard off and sneak a peak.

In the original NG thread Brokentoeswalker mentioned Basswood, which considering the weight difference is my top candidate as to what this is. Here are more pics with more light. It looks like pretty light wood showing through where the poly is thinnest in the pickup screw adjuster route on either side of the darker wood of the neck tenon.
