Cook County defies government on immigration - Yahoo! News

Gotta love Chicago.

"It puts residents at risk, and it puts my police officers at risk," said Rod Craig, mayor of Hanover Park in suburban Chicago, who is livid about the release of three suspected illegal immigrants charged with assaulting two officers and trying to take one of their guns."

assaulting 2 officers and trying to take their guns?,.....and you let them go?!?!

"They say the practice costs too much money and treats immigrants unfairly, especially those accused of only small-time offenses such as shoplifting, traffic violations or drunken driving."

Yes, because drunken driving is a "small time offense." F**king morons. It kills innocent people daily.

I freaking hate that somehow this city has become a safe haven, sanctuary city. In the past 3 years I've seen it change immensely. A lot of the residents even joke now they should rename the city Mexicago. Another common joke is, "What do you want to eat? Chinese? Italian?" "What's the difference? There's Mexicans in every kitchen."

What is so hard about this? There's been a big rise in gang violence, a massive increase in the latino population (future voters maybe?) People are being driven out of their neighborhoods because it's being taken over by gangs and violence, (like the last neighborhood I lived in, and moved out of for that exact reason. I got tired of my car being broken into every other month and people getting shot on my block every summer.)

It's all just so stupid. I can't understand why we're protecting these people.

I have friends that are illegal. I understand their reasons and I know there's a big grey area and that not all of them are asking for handouts or causing problems. Heck, some of my friends I really like.

But it's just getting to be too much.

*gah!!*

FFS.

You're right though.

I know a guy who's been trying to find a job in a kitchen for years, and he can't get hired because he doesn't speak spanish (hence, can't communicate with every other person in the kitchen) and he actually wants the bare minimum of minimum wage, if not more because he's experienced.

I mean, why hire an American who knows the job and can do the job when you can hire a trio of people who will work for less and all speak the same language right? It's just business right? Who cares if you're taking money away from a legal citizen to underpay illegal ones? It's just business right?

It's all so stupid and shady and corrupted.

It's become a joke in the city now. Every restaurant kitchen is staffed by latinos. Every one. From applebees to dennys to 'high dollar' ones.

Actually the only time you don't see it is if you go to a chinese restaurant. (they usually run a family business with family working.)

I just about laughed my a** off at Subway last week watching a Polish guy with a thick accent trying to order a sub from a Latino woman with a thick accent. Neither one could understand the other one and they were both getting pissed and loud. It's all so stupid.

Finally I stepped up and helped him order so that she could understand.

(I should've gotten a discount on my sub for that intervention, lol.)

I've lived in Cook County 51 years and believe me it has its problems but I've been to much worse places. I'm not goin' anywhere but the OP should think about it if he thinks it's that bad.

This isn't about me and I'm not moving. I live here legally, work here, make my money here with my guitar, and my friends and girlfriend are here. I'm not going to move to bumf*ck idaho and make a living with my guitar like I do here. Being a full time musician means there's only a few cities you can live in and make a living.

Why should I leave?

This is about Cook Country not even upholding the law they're sworn to protect.
This is about a country that's ignoring a problem.

Let 22 million illegal americans invade mexico and see if it's not viewed as an invasion? Hell, let 22 million illegal americans invade any country and see if they can get away with it.

It's not our fault if mexico has become such a sh*t hole that people want to leave it. So why should we pay for that?

At what point does our kindness turn into being bent over and rammed up the poop-chute?

I'm friends with a handful of illegals. They have absolutely no interest in being american citizens. They're here for the money and some of them are here for the handouts, that's it.

And like one of them said to me just the other day, things keep going the way they're going and America is going to start to look like Mexico really soon. People fighting for jobs they can't get and wanting to migrate to a country they can actually afford to live in.

And this was told to me by an illegal immigrant! That America is turning into Mexico.

22 million illegals. Think about that.

:hmm:

Well, there's another word in the English language shot all to Hell.

Sorry River, but I was raised that the law is the law. Everyone has an excuse or a hard luck story. I'd no more defend a friend for driving drunk or robbing people. Just because they're friends doesn't mean I condone their actions. I have friends in every walk of life, and I accept them for what they are. But that doesn't mean I agree with what they do.

Yes, run from a problem. That's a great solution.

Well, they're not going to go away so maybe you could do something like donate some of your time to teach ESL at a free adult education school. I know a guy that does this.

again, this isn't about me.

and I do donate my time to helping some of them in a variety of ways.

I believe in helping people, very much.

I don't believe in allowing yourself to be taken advantage of or the country not upholding it's own laws.

Why should I follow the law? Why should any of us obey the law then? Why don't we all just do whatever the hell we want to do then? I like your house, I think I'll move in. I like your car, I think I'll take it. Man that wallet looks fat, why don't you give it to me? I don't make much money, why don't you give me a Historic Les Paul because I make some puppy dog eyes and tell you a hard luck story?

F**k that.

We humans have been migrating since our creation/evolution. I see no reason why that it will stop just because some of us have concocted arbitrary borders around a piece of land.

BTW; your family came from somewhere besides North America. Have you ever verified that they migrated to the US legally? I know a guy that did some family history investigation and found that his family came to the US through Canada in the 1870's and were never actually here legally.

Yes both sides of my family came here legally, learned the language, and assimilated. Are proud to be Americans, vote, and both sides of the family are military, coast guard, or policemen.

Shall we keep talking about me or can we discuss the article now?

Now you're just being silly.

But if it really bothers you that much then you need to leave the US, because this is exactly what Europeans and other migrants have done to the Native Americans.

At least they have casinos now, I guess.

Dude, you went off the article in your first post! I'm just trying to give you some perspective or suggestions that might make you feel better about the situation.

Yup lets all just pack up and move.

Sure hope Canada is ready.

Dude, you went off the article in your first post! I'm just trying to give you some perspective or suggestions that might make you feel better about the situation.

I did that because I think it's stupid when people just post a link or copy an article yet don't interject any opinion or say why they're posting it or comment on it in any way.

If you post a news article, I want to read your feelings on the subject and why you're posting it. If you just post a link without comment? Well, I've got news sites for that. I come here for the fun and the discussions.

But I see now maybe that's why people do it. Just post the article and sit back so the posts don't end up being about the OP.
