Double Cream Super Distortions, what else? Maybe go with PAF's for the neck and middle for a little variety, but Ace only ever had the bridge pickup working. As far as the switch, goes with the territory with an Epi. Per-maybehaps you might want to upgrade your wiring while you're at it. Post some pics when you get her done!

my uncle told me of a place that sells custom wiring and pots and they are supposed to make a huge difference but i can not remember the name of the place. i have been out of the music biz for some time. are the superdistortions still as good as they were in the late 80's? i had a couple of kramers that i had them in.

Honestly, I have no idea. The only guitar I ever played that had Super-D's belonged to a friend of mine 15 years ago. I've never gotten around to getting one myself. I imagine some will tell you they aren't, but I'd bet they are just fine. I know Ace uses newer ones as well as old ones, so there you go.

Look up Jonesy here on the forum, he can hook you up with whatever you need for your wiring. Wymore guitars is a great source too,and John's a really great guy. Also, you coild try RS Guitarworks.

+100 on that. I just got done doing the re-wire with Jonesy's stuff and its like night and day. He'll take care of you man and he'll walk you through the install also. If I can do the instal anyone can. He set me up with 50's style wiring set up. Its smoking man for real!!!

Heres where I am at with my Ace clone, I am getting my Dimarzios together and going to route for the third middle pickup.

Right now it has the stock pickups, but I have already changed all the hardware out for nickel and the plastics to cream, so I am on the way for this one.

My last Ace conversion was a 73 Les Paul Custom that was used when I was in a tribute band for a couple years in the 90's.

I think conversions are better than the signature models just because the headstock and fretboard inlays looked kinda cheesy to me.

Voices- I am getting some pics scanned from that time 97-99, the band was called "Rock Bottom". We did mostly songs from the first album through the solo albums and later added songs off Psycho Circus.

we did not suck, but our only thing to do in life was play guitar and drink so we spent hours everyday working on the song and stage show, we had it down pat and got paid good money especially on the Japanese tours we did, some crazy sh*t that was, I love Japan.

First off, if you are doing an Ace conversion, why on earth would you want to get gold p/u covers?? Ace always used DiMarzio SD's in dble cream, never covered. As for the your other question:

i have been out of the music biz for some time. are the superdistortions still as good as they were in the late 80's? i had a couple of kramers that i had them in.

I have a DiMarzio Super Distortion p/u I am still using (installed in an Epi LP) that I bought new in 1979. I also have a couple of new ones I picked up in the last year or so and I can say that they all sound the same (one is installed in a Gibson LP). I haven't noticed any difference in the '79 compared to the new ones.
