Well, it's not ebony but I think it is more interesting to look at:

This is an R4JB in Oxblood. Here is how it looks in the sun:

I literally soiled myself. I've only recently started to appreciate ebony standards, but they HAVE to come with a super dark board. The Oxblood looks fantastic.... is the finish VOS? Also, does it ever look red except in direct light/sunlight?

Good thing Lt. Dave sent me some of his depends. Weird thing is though, they were marked as cake? Whatever, they came in handy when I saw this pic.

It is more of an NOS finish. It does not have the "gunk" applied but it does have the yellowed binding.

The picture of it in the case in full sunlight is about as red as it ever looks and even then, it is more of a maroon. I have done several gigs with it and it always looks black, even under stage lighting and flash photography.

The fretboard in that same picture above, is also as light as it ever looked. That was taken as soon as it arrived, from a collector who had it sitting in a closet for several years. The board was very dry. Once I oiled the board and started playing it, it looks more like the indoor picture now, nearly black.

I had a '11 traditional w/ the p90s and I spent more time cleaning the darn thing. It ruined me of black guitars. Look at it wrong and its dirty.

Same reason I'll never own a black car

Hahaha!! My wife thinks I’m anal about cleaning my car! I’ll never own a black car either...I’d be cleaning it every day!! :D

I’m not a huge fan of black guitars either. :cool2:

Yes, your fretboard looks nice and dark, I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't. I just don't like seeing a beautiful ebony guitar with a super light fretboard in general. I think it distracts from the beauty of the guitar when that happens.

I love the finish on yours and the color. Glad it's with someone who will take care of and ENJOY it, not just let it sit in a closet.

Thanks and no worries. I know what you meant and I hate light colored boards on dark guitars too. I was just giving you an idea of the actual color of the guitar. Photos can be deceiving.

As for enjoying it, it gets played out regularly and is definitely not a case queen or collector's item. However, because it gets played, I wouldn't exactly say I take care of it as well as I should.
