...a deal to end the NHL lockout looks to be only a matter of hours, or at most a couple of days, away. The the real fun of free agent signings and trades begins!!!

We can only hope colchar!

Meh. I'm just sickened by the whole process of these "negotiations." I canceled my Gamecenterlive a long time ago and have zero intention of dropping another nickel on anything NHL-related ever again.

Even if - and it's by no means a certainty - they do make a deal and start playing, I won't be watching. (Not that we get a whole lot of NHL games broadcast over here anyway...)

I just hope the fans stick it to the players and the league by staying away from games en masse and letting them play to empty arenas. I know it'll never happen, but it makes a great mental picture.

The timing couldn't have been worse imho. Hockey has never been more popular than it was last year. Certainly not in the States anyway. I knew however, that it was going to come down to this once I heard that Donald Fehr was involved given his track record with Major League Baseball.

There are a lot of people that feel the way you do and rightly so. I think it'll come back, it's just going to take a long time.

The Count has a brutal record of lock outs as a Commissioner. The NHLPA not only requires agents but also a cretin like Fehr to represent them in business? Thats laughable. More lawyers have ruined the game. Like everything else they touch.

When the NHL realizes it will never be the NFL or NBA in terms of revenue and number of fans, it will be able to bring the game back to the level of respectability it deserves. Until then, its just a grubby money making machine that wants to load its extravagance on the fans.

Notice how Gretzky, the classy guy who helped devise the NHLPA has been so silent on the issue? Embarassed to see what they are doing with it.

Got to enjoy the Juniors before the new Unionization led by George Laraque makes it a gong show at that level too.

PS Bettman, quit holding cities ransom for your costs to construct arenas and get your Billionaire Owners to pay. The pro game was played outside on a river at one time. Real fans wouldnt be adverse to that. Its better than getting pick pocketed by a short snake oil salesman in a grey suit.

**** the NHL! I'm done with them. This is the first year since 98 that we haven't finished in a medal position. I give the US all credit for their win, they have a great goalie and some good forwards but they always seem to have heart and always get pumped for the big games.

I wonder at times if Canada has lost the hunger after such a good track record.

Next year baby!!!

They did beat Canada 5-1 yesterday or was it the day before?

Yeah, it was he day before. They had a day off before the Gold Medal game. Don't forget, Canada beat them earlier in the tournament, plus they had a day off the day before they played each other again, the U.S. didn't, which I think may have hurt the Canadians. Then, there's the rivalry too...

I saw a few games at the pub, but they were replays. I wanted to watch the gold medal game but there were no pubs nearby that were A: open that early and B: would have the game on as Oakland CA isn't really a hockey town. P.S. I don't have a cable or satellite subscription.
