Winter is a ways off but I'm shopping for winter clothes now. I'm not a fan of cold weather so I ordered a coat last night from the carhartt website.

I ordered a yukon extreme artic coat. Its designed for frigid temperatures. I also ordered a carhartt stocking hat. I'm gonna order some gloves for before long too. Im probably gonna order those from the backpacking site I get my gear from. I wanna do some research first.

So even though I don't like winter I'm gonna stay warm so I'll be able to still hike despite the cold temperatures.

I'm sure you know this, but make sure you dress in layers for winter hiking. You want to be able to remove outer layers to prevent sweating too much.
Yeah I've been looking a thermal underwater too.

The backpacking website I bought most of my gear from has all kinds of cold weather clothing. I'm looking forward to camping in the fall. My sleeping mat is insulated and my sleeping bag is rated 30F.

I've always found that in cold weather hikes, I only need the heavy coat and thermal underwear for when I stop. I generate enough heat from hiking that I couldn't wear a heavy coat and be alive. I'd sweat to death.

Thermal underwear works great, IME. You can also buy used ploy-pro undergarments at Army surplus stores or buy on eBay. That stuff works amazingly well to keep you warm, I've worn it under jeans in some reallylow temps and snow and not been cold.

Excellent suggestion. I’ve used old military issue poly pro in sub zero temps with nothing else but a wool sweater on top. Worked great.

I spent 13 years in AK working outdoors. We all had a lot of Carhart gear, but that was for work. Recreational gear we used https://www.columbia.com/ . I doubt you'll be going out in the extremes we did, -30 sometimes. If you're intending to spend long periods in extreme cold, your head, feet, and hands are where body heat is lost.
