Man, all of their pics are like that. Doesn't seem to affect sales, but NGD vs. shop pics are always pretty different.

Does anyone here own a Cody Burst finish guitar? the guy at Daves says it's the same as the believer burst. I just wanted to see if anyone here had any input or pics that aren't so dark...here's the link to the site
Gibson Custom Shop “Hand Picked” 1959 Les Paul Reissue 2014 Version | Dave's Guitar Shop

this one looks like a Donna sorta..

I'd ask the guy at Dave's to send other pics of the guitar you're interested in because all the pics on the site are very, very dark.

Their pics are comical.
They are brown, or dark brown.
Awful in terms of knowing what you are getting.

....and all reports show that Dave's shop thinks their pictures are just fine.

The pictures are brutal. However, give a call and ask for some cell pics and you'll get a good idea of what it looks like and they are happy to give an in hand description....so good service, poor photos.

Yeah, it's weird how all the pictures on their site are super dark but if you ask for more realistic pictures they will send them.

Whatever color it is you can guarantee the actual guitar is going to look much different in person. I think they go with darker pictures to enhance the flame and grain of the tops.

I was just looking at Daves last night online and saw the Cody burst. No idea.

I love Daves and their pics have actually gotten better. But...I think the pics they have do NOT accentuate the tops. I think the opposite is true. When I've been there in person the tops look better in person.

As someone else said..they're happy to take other pictures. Launs great.

I agree. The tops and colors usually look 10 times better in person. I just think Daves feels the darker pictures shows off the flame and wood grain better since there is very little glare or brightness.

I tend to think that Dave's photos are a bit altered by using the "contrast" tool within whatever program he's working with to enhance the darker hues and shades of the instrument. Funny thing is, there's been talk about his photos for years now, but yet, he doesn't seem to care about improving them so that they actually give a good representation of what the guitars really look like.

I have had in hand photos sent to me for 2 guitars in the Cody burst. Its mostly a red looking cherryburst, although digital photography accentuates the reds ussually, so they probably are a bit more sudued in person.

I agree, that their pics are horrible. I just recently asked them to send me additional pics of a guitar that looked quite promising, and while the color and brightness of the pics they sent were much better, the pics themselves were terrible. In fact, the pics they sent were a lot worse than their on-line pics. Terrible way to try and sell guitars.

Dave is a great dealer, but those photos are remarkably poor quality. His photos used to be much more accurate

I've bought from Dave's before & they are always happy to send pics of the guitar and provide an inhand description.

Highly recommend

Agree, they all do this. However, to date the ONLY stores that I have found (based on personal experience) that remotely know anything about a Guitar & how it sounds is Mark at Mark's Guitar Loft in NH (MB 024) & Brandon at Willcutts in KY (2006 FT VOS R9).

At least I received what I paid for & what I expected to receive.

I can also say that Richie at Lakeshore & Ray at Grinning Elk under promised & over delivered.

All the others, well.................."it plays like butta"............"best Historic I have ever played".............I could go on.

This is the fundamental problem (as I see it) is that many just do not know what a great Guitar is and / or they are just plain dishonest.

My 2c FWIW.

I don't think I'd throw Daves in with that statement at all. I've bought from Daves and from Ray at Grinning Elk and both were great.

But..in general....I'm sure that this is something that goes on. I mean..it is sales. They have to sell the turds too.

I am not referring to Daves. I have never bought a Guitar from them so I do not have first hand experience with them specifically.

A good friend does on several occasions (ES335 & a Shanks) but I'll let him comment if he feels so inclined.

Re selling turds, if I had a store I'd sort stock & send back what I do not consider to be a good Guitar. There is not way I'd be telling people it is a great Guitar when it is not.

Accurate pics & accurate descriptions are paramount IMHO.

It is because of all this crap I now only buy custom made Guitars, whether they be Replicas or otherwise. You live & learn. :)

I think you're being a little harsh Rudi, only singling out a hand full of dealers as being great and the rest no so.

I've bought from Mark as well and the service I got from Dave was equally as good. My 2C
