I remember some people disliking Rx type of serial numbers (e.g. 2016 Standard Historics), as opposed to the classic 9 7 xxx type (for 2017). How do y'all feel about CME serial numbers on a historic? Does the CME serial number make the guitar less accurate? Does it hurt resale value? Etc.

Thank you!

Hard to say. The double serial numbers on the Music Machine guitars from back in the day probably help verify they were part of those very limited and desirable runs, so if anything it helps resale value with those guitars. The CME runs are pretty limited (some are runs of 5) so provided it is a desirable guitar down the road, the verifiable serial number helps. But it's definitely not historically accurate (but then again neither are those limited runs since they've spec'd their own configurations).

It wouldn't bother me.

It's a serial number that should represent the guitar it's on, not a guitar made 60 years ago. A similar resemblance is all it is. Though it seems important to some, I'm like Rags it doesn't mean much to me. :D

This number is on a Collectors Choice and resembles no vintage instrument. It doesn't lessen its value one bit.

Given a choice, I'd choose a X XXXX serial every time.

No fanboy for the CME serials at all but I'd do a CC MM serial but I'd still prefer the 5 digits and a space.

Keep the rest on the COA please Gibson...

I never cared much about that . Brazil1,2,& 3rd conditions Country (I get to have all the problems:laugh2:) .....

I'd guess it's good to be able to differentiate those made for a Special run from just a part of the regular run of guitars that year .... Nice COA they get too. If it's ever looked at after putting it away

Well to me if I buy a collectors choice that was made after another guitar Nicky, Ace Frehley, gruhn, carmelita, donna. That to me will hold value as a "limited run" made to specs after a "real" burst. Now on the other hand when I walked into chicago music exchange cme and they said these are the "new" standard models if I'm shelling out 3500 or more on a reissue aside from a cc I'd like it to be as close to the original even the serial #. cme is a great store but the cme is their choice of materials and its their guitar, there was not just a run of 5 but a lot. I played a few then they have an 2009 50th anniversary which to me was superior, but 1500.00 more
heres one on ebay, great deal http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5338014323&icep_item=202157872067

guess every store is doing there own spec 58,59,60, reissues such as wildwood now cme and others.

I've owned six historics including one "CME". The only one I'd run back into a burning house for is the 2017 CME green lemon. I couldn't care less if the serial number isn't vintage correct. I'd literally be shocked if I ever find another guitar that good.
