CLOSE CALL! big fires in Chico just missed me!
It started just a mere 300 yards from my apartments
in Chico and has burned over 6,000 acres and has
burnt over 11 miles away into the mountains near
Paradise, it just missed our apartments, and
two schools. There was a mandatory evacuation
at 3pm yesterday of everyone just east or our apartments
and had to stay at an evacuation center over night.
So a few thousand people had to leave just down the
street from me. Just yesterday south of here 21 homes
burnt up and 99 cars and trucks in Oroville.
The winds are picking up again and the fire is 0%
contained but im safe now.
Here are some early photos, from my front yard, they dont look too
bad because they were just in the first hour, but it got so bad you couldnt
see a couple hours later.
Also below are some shourt local news stories below

Needless to say, im feeling pretty lucky today, just 10 miles away 21 homes burnt up
Seems you are not safe anywhere in the world when it comes to disaters, we have fires
and quakes in California.

Thursday Morning Update: Humboldt Fire Jumps The Skyway; 6,000 Acres Burned

Last Update: 2:16 am

Updated Humboldt Fire Information. The fire has grown to 6000 acres and is 10% contained. As of early Thursday, immediate threat evacuations are underway for several hundred homes threatened by a portion of the fire that has jumped the Skyway. The evacuation area now includes the west side of Neal Road from the Skyway to Highway 99.

An evacuation center is open at Neighborhood Church on Notre Dame Boulevard in Chico and the Seventh Day Adventist School Gymnasium located at 5699 Academy Drive in Paradise. So far, there are no reports of structures damaged or destroyed.

Immediate threat evacuations also remain in effect East of 976 Honey Run to Conejo, Wilder, Pam, Zinfandel and Doe Mill. The Skyway is closed from Neal Road to Bruce Road. Honeyrun Road is also closed. Small animals can be taken to the Butte County Search and Rescue facility and large animals can be taken to the Chico State Farm.

The Governor proclaimed a state of emergency in Butte County Due to wildfires. "We are aggressively battling the Ophir and Humboldt Fires, and I thank the hardworking firefighter for their efforts. We are mobilizing and coordinating all off the resources necessary to fight these fires."

For fire information, call 538-7826, or AM 1500 on Radio. We have updated information on Home - NBC 24 Action News and Home - CBS 12 Action News. Stay with Action News for live updates Thursday.

Humboldt Fire Forces Residents Out

Last Update: 6/11 11:59 pm

Thousands have been kept out of their homes tonight because of the looming danger of the Humboldt fire.

Now many Chico residents are banding together to survive this natural disaster.

"We're just sitting tight," says Honey Run Road resident Kelley Tapp.

That's the thought on many residents minds watching the orange cloud grow over east Chico.

Even the animals are sensing an emergency.

Tapp says,"My horse kicked me down, making my chest split a cinder block, but it wasn't her fault, she was scared."

The Tapp's were not under mandatory evacuation, but many resident's who left their homes before the roads closed down have no way to get back in.
Neal Road Resident Stephen McClintock says, "I'll walk if i have to, I'll park and walk in."

Arlie Hixon went for help at the Red Cross Emergency Shelter set up at the Neighborhood church, knowing she would be away from her home all night.

Hixon says, "They took a look at the list of my husband's prescriptions I keep with me. A deputy went in, I directed him to them in the house and brought them to us."

The evacuation center is serving as an information post, bringing evacuees the latest updates and an idea of when they may get to return home.

Hixon says, "They've been great at the shelter. Just asking if we need anything at all."

Some are waiting it out away from the flames, while others are watching as it continues to unfold.
Tapp says, "Now that it's jumped the creek, we're just sitting here surrounded by fire."

Cal-Fire officials believe the road closures will start being lifting in sections Thursday.

You see this stuff always happening to other people, and really
never think you will get it. Just makes you feel a little less safe.

WOW! Makes us all feel a little less safe when we realize how close disaster comes to someone we "Know". Yes, even over the 'net we kinda know each other.

Glad you and your immediate neighbors are safe. Hopefully insurance companies still insure Californians since this is basically a seasonal thing. Makes me want you to own a big van for the evaluation if it ever came.
Al those homes and cars destroyed has gotta ruin some lives forever.

Stay well man.

Coldsteal, those pics are friggin' scary. At least there's plenty of warning.

We still have some room left for you here in NY. No quakes, or fires, just taxes.

Hope you stay lucky.

Glad to hear that you are safe Cliff!

I know all about evacuations. I really hate when June comes around. It marks the beginning of hurricane season.:Ohno:

Glad you're ok, dude.

Between the fires out west and flooding here in the Midwest, I often wonder how my guitar-playing brethren are doing.

Hey, I know where those apartments are! Glad it missed you, Cold!

Yeah, this thing is a doosy. They're evacuating the town of Paradise south of Pearson road, some 9500 people. As of 6:00pm they said on the local radio 20 to 30 homes were lost outside of Paradise. I left work today and got on 99 north on the Skyway onramp and everything up the hill is black! The high winds have been playing hell with the firefighters.

Lots of buds live up that way, thankfully all are OK for now. Hope they get a handle on it soon, Paradise is going to be a bitch to fight a fire in, nothing but small little roads and trees everywhere.

Wow, I own a smoke shop a few miles away in Red Bluff.
But not all of my customers put together could make a smoke cloud that big.

The winds shifted again today and the fire moved back
into the same area, it has already burnt more than
30 homes and right now Butte College is surrounded and
starting on fire.
So far we are still safe here, but its like within just a 1/2 mile
still just hoping the winds dont blow ambers on homes
in this area
The winds right now are blowing the smoke in the other direction
but my sister who lives 35 miles south of here thier they are coverd
in smoke and ash is falling. If the wind shifts ill get it
The fire really is so big you cant get it into a photo
The people in the city of Paradise are stuck the major highways
and roads are all blocked off.

If you go to the local news site you can watch some amazing video

Here is some photos i just took an hour ago

Wow, I hadn't heard about Butte College, damn. This is bad, they've been fearing this for years. With the lack of rain we've had around here this year, this is going to be a dangerous summer. It's already off to a bad start.
