Les, I guess I'm a nOOb right along side you. I can't read music, get frustrated with tab and don't know the "real" names of the chords I play too.

All hail to the nOObs, I say !!!!

(Stands up) My name is Mike, and I'm a noob.
Got my first guitar March of 08, and been trying to play it every day. Mainly got it as a way to have something in common and get closer to one of my daughters. What's an old fart got to talk about to a 17 year old girl. She has been playing for 4 years now. Didn't know jack about guitars when I started and everything I have learned has been on this forum, from people nice enough to answer the same old questions that are always asked. Anyway it's slow progress for an old man but I am getting better with trying to play. Keep kidding my daughter one of these days I'm going to be better than her.

I don't know what the truss rod cover does

I learned on a discovery show on les pauls that it keeps the neck from bending wich keeps it in tune. Epiphones have cheaper made lower quality truss rod than gibsons - thats why they go out of tune more than gibsons.

-also, real like you and it was great to learn some things about you

Im also very noobish:D

I don't consider myself a "noob" and I can't play near as well as I want to but that's alright with me. I know one thing and that's that I love the way a Les Paul and Telecaster looks and sounds through a good tube amp and I always will!

Here's a little about my self. I've been playing since the mid 1970s. I got a Silvertone strat copy and the matching amp. Late 60s vintage I'd say. Took a few lessons learned the open cowboy chords and stayed there for a few years but I've never stoped slowly moving from one plateau to an other.
I've been traveling most of my professional career and have met and played with people in casual settings from all over the country and I have been on stage a time or two but I usually go to a new job make friends if I don't already have some there. They come by the RV park we BBQ eat I drag the guitar out for a couple of people the first night then it usually snow balls and by the time the project is over theirs a group of regulars and many one timers. I've moved from one stage to the next a lot slower than I'd like to admit to but I didn't quit my day job ether. I've picked with ho boes and CEOs and at the moment I'm in Asia.
I relay don't care if you've never picked a musical instrument up before in you're life you're question is just as important as any body else's.

Oh I almost forgot , my playing sounds a lot better after you've had a few beers.
