I've seen marginally acceptable gibby tributes and even with that you'll still probably upgrade as much as the epiphone however the majority of higher end epiphones are exceptional and can beat every gibby up to the standard. Just do a thorough search and try to find yourself a good one.

for the record, i wouldn't say my gibson tribute was "better" than my epi standard, or vice versa. but i would sell my gibson before i sold my epiphone.

Are you wanting the P90s or just looking for a inexpensive Gibson to compare it to the Epi 1960?

You said they both felt good, what about sound? Did you get to plug them in as you were feeling them up?

PM sent... dont want to derail the thread...

also, for the record, I've modded my gibson and my epi equally, for the most part

in the epi, i swapped the bridge adn tail, pups, tuners, all electronics (pots, caps, switch, input).
in the gibson, I swapped the pups, plastics and pots/caps.

I have always said that I would take a high end Epi over a low end Gibby anyday.

Yes I played them both, comparing p90's to HB's they both were good, some humm from the p90's (expected)
So yes I am just trying to compare a cheaper Gibson to the Epi. I dont have any plans to try and sell or box away as a collectable. Just want a player and for the small cost difference, I was thinking Gibson (for the name only? no, NOT) but because I am already happy with my Epi LP and the only Guitar I have 2 of are my Strats,, & they are very different. The Gibson would just be another type of guitar I have and Like to play

in my humble opinion, play both, take the one that plays better.

my gibson plays better than my epi from factory and after set up.
