Look wise anyways.
I was at a shop today to trade a guitar with a dude, and the shop had a fake Gibson goldtop in their display case. If it wouldnt have been marked fake with a $300 price I might not have even noticed.
The dead giveaway for me is the bridge, horn and headstock shape and this one had all 3 perfect. I dont think Ive EVER seen a forgery with correct, unslotted bridge studs, but this one had em. The horn and head stock were also pretty spot on.
The only tell on this particular guitar was the lack of nibs, but between Gibson now not having them on and people being able to claim refret, you might get fooled. The shape of the body curve near the selector switch was also just a tiny bit off, but if you dont really know your shit, you would definitely miss it.
Just throwing it out there, if you buy used make sure you really know what to look for as old tells are getting fixed.
